The mx layoffs were announced a few months ago. Those were due to the fact that the MD80s were being retired and the Airbus did not need all the heavy mx. More layoffs were announced at HQ two days ago- 40 people.
The President mentioned that the 25% reduction in rpms from year to date largely were due to the hurricanes that shutdown hq for almost 7 days...not to say our flight operations for 4 days. He also mentioned that the plan is still looking godd but that 2006 would be tough. He mentioned pilot hiring late 2006 to early 2007.
