Any Soveriengn drivers out there who have taken your airplane to Hawaii? I am here in Maui and just saw a new Soveriegn on the ramp at Air Service.

Does this airplane have the range to do without a wet footprint? What is the range of this new airframe?

I just found it interesting seeing that airplane over here and was curious about the performance.

I would guess that was the demonstrator. When I was at FSI last month one of the Cessna guys told me they were going over in early January.

I've run lots of plans on Universal-- no problem up to 50kts headwind out of PDX, and around 80kts out of OAK. I believe the longest trip they have done so far is Goose - Vienna, at least as of last month.

Also, on the plans I ran, wet footprint wasn't a big problem. Typically, when wet footprint started to be a problem we weren't arriving with enough gas in the normal scenario to make me feel comfortable.

Dude:

Pass me some of that weed you are smoking, sounds like some excellent stuff!!

You must be a Cessna Demo Pilot.

Why don't you relate some of your Sovereign experiences? If you are so sure I am wrong, I assume you have some time in the airplane?

I'm typed, although I admit that I have only flown the sim. I have done quite a bit of research on range. My boss (up until 2 weeks ago, anyway) wanted to take it to Hawaii and Europe, so I've looked into it pretty extensively. Have you?

Ok, you got me. I don't have any Sovereign experiences. However, I have experience in the X where its legs are 300NM longer than the Sovereign. Getting to the destination is not a problem, it's the descent to 15,000 ft and return to an airport at your ETP which the problem in the X.

It must be the straight wing in the Sovereign and the set of oars in the overwater equipment that makes it a great airplane to go overwater.

The Sovereign probably is more efficient at low altitude than the X. I wouldn't be surprised by that. On the plans I ran, the worst D/P scenario I saw required a descent to 15,000-- the other ones were all 10,000. I am also fairly conservative about reserve fuel, so that may be a factor.

I have to say I don't think it's a great overwater airplane-- for one thing, I would sure like to have an IRS! However, it's not unreasonable for a few trips per year.
