A little help, please.
Anyone heard of any flying jobs in the Boise/Sun Valley/SW Idaho areas?
I'm currently 121, but I'm sick to death of commuting. I have worked corp, just not for a long time and lost most of my network contacts.
I would be grateful for any help.

Try Western Aviation (?) @ BOI (the FBO on the south side of the field). They are a distributor/maintenance facility for the PC12. They frequently need pilots for new PC12 customers. There are other operators, but this is the one I am most familiar with. Might be a good place to get a foot in the door.

I don't know of any based a/c @ SUN; seems like most there are transients. Couldn't hurt to call the FBO there, though.

I thought there would be some more corp activity coming to town with all the rich folks flocking to Tamarack. Doesn't seem to be happening... yet.

I did get a couple empty powder days up there though.:)

Western Aircraft at Boise. Good operation. Big, too. Had lunch there yesterday. They sell more PC-12's than any other organization in the Western Hemisphere. A dozen so far this year, I think the manager said. They do a lot of selling and flying and maintenance (Oh, my!!)

I'm sure that is a great airplane, but I'm too high strung to fly singles at night, IMC, over the mountains. Scared myself enough times in light twins, usually full of U.S. Mail...
Thanks for the tip, though! It is appreciated!

They do boatloads of Hawker and Falcon maintenance, but I don't know if they're operating any. You might call 'em.
I'm right with you on the mighty Pilatypus. I've got just enough PC-12 time to know that I'd rather fly my trusty Turbo Commander from the old days. Interesting airplane, though. Great numbers, but I'm a twin guy, too. I took a ride in a '12 the other day, and the pilot filed WAYYY higher than I would have for an 85 nm trip over the hills. I asked about cruising that high and he said, "I'm thinking about OEI performance. :)

McCall aviation has some openings

The thought of flying an Islander or (gulp) a C206 overloaded with rafting gear from hot and high grass strips gives me the heebee jeebees. How about scud running up and down highway 55?

Those guys are brave.

oldxfr8dog-

Try 7Bar Aviation out of Sun Valley, ID. Trying to get back to Idaho myself.

There are quite a few operators in town. Most of them have been named, but there is also:

Part 135
Conyan: Piper Cheyennes (2x PA31 - 1x PA42)
Turbo Air: King Airs (3x Be90 - 1x Be200)
McCall Air: Ce560 (still looking for a pilot or two - it's a new jet for them)
Nie Planes: LJ60 (based in Nampa)

Part 91
Idaho Power: Ce550 (same guys flying it from '93!)
Great Western Insurance: Ce525
JR Simplot: 2x Ce560 Encores
Washington Companies: 2x HS125s, 1x GLEX
USFS: Boat loads of King Airs, Turbo DC-3s, Twin Otters, Ce550 Bravo

Also, there is a Premier, a Beechjet, and a couple more Ce525s on the field whose operator's names escape at this time.

Cheers,
RCHCFI

Thanks man!

I've heard USFS is pretty political, true? Also, I'm 53. Too old for these guys?

YES, the USFS is very political. There was recently a job listing for one of their DHC-6 jump planes. The requirements for the job included "you must have a minimum of 200 hours of government operated DHC-6 time!" Now where do you get that kind of time without getting this kind of job.

Anyway, sorry about the tangent, but I wasn't sure if you had a background in any type of government flying in the past.

And most of the guys that I've seen flying the DC-3s and the Twin Otters are 45+.

I would imagine that Idaho Power is a good company if the guy has been there since 93?And Conarga has lears right?

Max hiring age is 40 for USFS/BLM. The previous guy can still fly for contractors though.

There are some DHC-6s operated under contract to USFS, so that would probably count as that time. But maybe they wrote it that tight because they already had someone they wanted to hire.

Bureaucrats are trying to move BLM national office from Boise to DC, not very smart either.

Its not very easy to get on with USFS or BLM at all, but still trying :)

Wish there was an operation like the old Harrah's.

Twatter flyin' into the Middle Fork lodge, Robertson 206s, and a DC-9 and Falcon for long distance stuff.
I guess there's a reason it went away...
