Hey guys,

Just wanted to know the procedure for jumpseating on Southwest?

Do you have to call a non-rev number to list, go to the ticket counter for a pass, or just walk up to the gate and see the agent?

I am travelling from FLL to CMH via BWI, do through riders have priority over other riders at a through station?

Thanks for your assistance:beer:

Here is their non-rev travel phone # 866-359-7967, you list as a non-rev and then ask for the jumpseat when you get to the gate , SWA is outstanding to jumpseat on!, always very nice, i use them all the time

If you are gonna be on the same plane all the way through, there is a chance the Gate Agent will check you in all the way through, and they will annotate on the form the give you to hand to the Captain. If there is a plane swap involved, you will need to start over at the new gate in BWI.

As for priority should you get to stay on the plane, I guess if there is someone of higher priority, ie a WN rider, you might get bumped. Assuming equal priority, I think you might be good. Generally speaking we allow jumpseaters to preboard. But that is the Gate Agent/Ops Agent's call.

I jumpseated on WN offline all the time when I was at another carrier, and I don't think there is a more laid back process out there.

Are you on CASS?

You might want to go FLL-TPA-CMH.... You're always welcome and you even get to pre-board after the kids do. I wish other airlines would allow this (pre-board). I only know of a few...

Actually there is no need to call the non-rev number. Just walk up to the counter and request the jumpseat. As long as you have an agreement with us you are good to go.

If it is a through flight the agent that checked you in will check you all the way through in the computer. That will protect you from being bumped by a pilot from another airline.

Happy Jumpseating!

Ditto on the don't call thingy. Just show up and say "howdy do ma'am" and you're golden.

Cheerio.

Thanks a million guys, I appreciate the valuable info.

We do have an agreement with WN, and many of our crewmembers have used Southwest in the past. Yes we are CASS!

If you're ever looking for ride to somewhere exotic, give us a call!

Thanks again!

i always try to list and then print out the 'security form' online. keeps the TSA from slowing down your ride home. just call the number mentioned above and tell them you're non-revving. they are always really cool and helpful. SWA is one of the few airlines that will tell you exactly how many seats are available.

here's the link to the security document. prints out as a boarding pass lookalike.

If you can list it helps out the ticket counter person. I'm not sure how much, but they appreciate it when I jumpseat to work.

If you're ever looking for ride to somewhere exotic, give us a call!

If that's the exotic places I took my C-5, I think I'll pass.

If memory serves, you are supposed to list Non-Rev by the book. So are SWA pilots jumpseating (commuting/pleasure). Not saying most do. It does help out the gate agent, and can only garner you some points with them. Your jumpseat pass will indicate where you plan to get off, so the Captain will know if you are going multiple legs on the same flight number. Stay on board during intermediate stops and if they have someone to bump you (only another WN pilot/employee) they will call your name.

You must not commute out of STL! STL has not let off line commuters pre-board for about 2 years now. Wheres the LUV in STL????

Happy New Year

You're right. Changes to the pre-board policy now only allows a SWA pilot the option of pre-boarding. I also noticed this first in STL ,when I went off the a/c for a walk and noticed a ATA guy in the "B" group. I asked him why he wasn't pre-boarding and he said the agents said " you must board in your group". The CA and I spoke with the Ops Agent about this and we were told it was "new" policy.

preboarding was a sweet deal and makes sense. you chat with the Captain and politely request the jumpseat. then take any seat and you stay out of everyone's way during the boarding process in line with the company philosophy of turning the airplane as quickly as possible.

didn't know the company policy had changed, but i have received some odd looks when i've asked to preboard. now i know why.

Niether did most of the pilot group. The STL incident is what clued me in, and the CA as well. The company view was the pre-board line was getting waaay too long, but some Ops-Agents will still let you pre-board if you ask.

If you are in CASS and present a passport they will usually just give you the jumpseat form and no boarding pass. I was told by a gate agent that if you only have the jumpseat form you can preboard. I guess they assume you are going to sit in the cockpit. If you have been given a boarding pass and group, then you have to wait in line.

Of course, this depends on the station. At PDX I always preboarded even with the pass, and one day a gate agent got all nasty at me and said I had to wait in line, although he added that if " you didn't show me your boarding pass and just the jumpseat form I would have let you preboard"

say it ain't so! NAGS (Nasty Agent of the Gate Syndrome) is beginning to infect the culture at SWA? dang...maybe the place is changing. i thought that NAGS was exclusive to big bully carriers.

is no airline immune to this horrible ailment? the times they are a changin'...

I don't think so. It was a command that came down from Dallas, and some still operate with a little bit of slack.
