I was wondering if you guys could chime in on changing your policy (down the road) to only allowing CASS members to jumpseat. This is a nasty RUMOR going around in my neck of the woods and I hope its false.

Well it lloks like this is going to happen.

"By 2007 must be a CASS participant or will not be allow to jumpseat without being in CASS."

I just sent a message to our coordinator to find out.

Actually occupy the jumpseat, CASS yes, to sit in back if available, CASS no.

btw, whats the number to list as an ACM?

RV
Not required to list for jumpseat.

Automated (866) SWA PLAY (1-866-792-7529)

Non-Automated (866) FLY SWNR (866)-359-7967

Reading the minutes of the SWAPA BOD meeting, this might be true. It states that "By 2007 must be a CASS participant or will not be allow to jumpseat without being in CASS". Now does that just mean the front or the whole aircraft. I will guess the whole aircraft, since it was emphasized in the meeting. It says more to come in the union rag, so we will update you when we get the word.

I wonder if this is being driven by our friends at the TSA.

I do believe in the future, security what it is, you will have to be a CASS player to ride front or back.

That's just great....what could possibly be the benefit in limiting regional pilots like myself whos company utilizes CASS as only a bargaining tool and admits being too cheap to pay and join.

Well, I feel your pain but we don't makes the rules, we just follow them. And there is no benefit. Point being, for the near term we do take non CASS folks today, and for the foreseable future.

On another point, you, your union needs to get your company to get on CASS, it will be required by the TSA gods. You need to show them the advantages, not blame SWA.

i am *positive* that if we go to CASS only, cabin or cockpit, it will be because the TSA requires it of all carriers, not a SWA internal decision. this is a while off anyway and things can change.

Although if it is a TSA CASS or nothing rule, you might not even be able to ride in your own jumpseat, wouldn't that be special!

I am not blaming anyone...just commenting.
I am trying to get a clarification from our jumpseat coordinator. When I find out more I will post it.

I do some stuff in maintaining the J/S list at SWA, and I've heard ALL the questions, and all the "well I've done it before". If you have a question... PM me.
