Is Southwest currently interviewing? What is the approx. wait from sending in app with a type rating until interview?

SWA is not currently interviewing, and probably won't for the rest of 2003. They call the most qualified first, so if you submit your app and you are stellar, they may call you within weeks.

Hope this helps

Interviews

Cage: Its anyone's guess when SWA will start interviewing again. You may want to do some searches and you will see that this type of question has been beat to death on the board. SWA currently has about 250 people in a hiring pool who have been through the entire hiring process and are just waiting for a class date. Original projections were for about 200 to start in 03, upwards from there in 04 and maybe interviews starting again in late 03. Now the latest RUMORS are 140 new hires this year, no interviews in 03, wait and see what happens in 04. Another rumor is that there are an additional 3000 or so applications in, and 600 of those are typed in the 73. Presumably SWA will continue its trend to interview people in the order they applied if they are qualified, but who knows, as more pilots hit the streets they will interview by quals. In short, there is no way anybody can give you anything more than a SWAG (super wild a$$ guess) as to when you might expect to hear anything from SWA. But with all those people in the pool and the applicant base as deep as it is, it could be quite a while.

Best of luck.

Words from an OAK asst. CP in our jumpseat coming from a meeting in DAL 2 weeks ago:

3000 apps on file
600 with types
300 in the pool

No interviews in 2003

Total hiring 2003 about 180 for net gain of 54 pilots.

Plan to hire 400-500 a year starting 2004.

Everything could change if we go to war.

Quote: "if you have any buddies that want to get hired tell them to go get their 73 type cause they'll jump ahead of the 2,400 apps without types."
