Just watching Nightly Business Report and Gary Kelly mentioned that he was "excited about the new code share allowing WN more international options."

So what's up?

WestJet. I think Southwest wants to be, "the official sponsor of the NHL". "Slapshot One" coming soon. By the way, Rush Rocks...

SWA is all about frequency, it's their business model. They use frequency and a constant coming and going of airplanes to offset station costs. They operate 20 flights a day from 3 gates while other hub and spoke airlines operate 9 flights a day from the same number of gates due to scheduling "banks" of flights to feed their hubs while SWA uses a more linear route system.

Places like Saskatoon, Toronto, Cancun, and Montego Bay do not lend themselves to frequency. Good for the CEO of SWA for knowing what his company is about and staying in his business model. Some airlines have failed by straying from their proven and succesful business model. These code shares will feed SWA flights and help with OTHER growth. SWA will continue to grow. They may slow it from time to time but it won't be due to code sharing. At least SWA isn't letting some regional "partner" to take over many of it's existing routes. Not one of SWA's routes is being given to another airline to fly as the legacy pilots have allowed to happen at their airlines.
