Southwest/ Hawaiian codeshare?

Does anyone see this as a feesible pairing under a codeshare agreement given the unfortunate bankruptcy of ATA?

Anything is possible, it is the airline industry. We don't know. We will just have to wait and see!

No expert here, but sure...it seems logical. If SWA is still interested in the revenue they were getting from the ATA codeshare (not sure how much that was).

Apparently our codeshare agreement with TZ was generating $50 Million annually. Not sure how much of that was from the Hawaii Ops though I'm sure it was a sizeable amount.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Gary Kelly wasn't on the phone with Hawaiian even before ATA shutdown trying to hammer out a deal. I don't think it's a huge coincidence that they just announced nonstops to OAK. If you look at their HI to mainland flying, it matches up perfectly with our West coast ops. Not that I'm happy about us not doing the flying ourselves however.

I think you are right. Hawaiian flies into 3 major SWA hubs and connects in several other cities. Also, a couple months age HAL and SWA signed an interline small package agreement (FWIW). As far as SWA flying to Hawaii, I think if it made sense, they would, if anyone could make a 737 operation to Hawaii work, SWA could. However, the airplane simply is not a good aircraft to fly to Hawaii and the seat mile costs are much higher on a trans-pac flight than on a 767's. Rather than have a 737 dedicated to fly to Hawaii, I'm guessing SWA would get a lot more revenue out of a 737 utilizing it on the mainland.

In addition, I think it's safe to say that Hawaiian is the only airline that flies to Hawaii that offers customer service that complements SWA. Somehow going from SWA to UAL/NWA/DAL etc. doesn't mesh. At least on Hawaiian you'll get more than sneers from the flight attendants.
