Oh lord can't wait till you fly with our check FO's. Remember TY SWA hires two captains not one. It's ok you will catch on pretty quick.LOL

Ty will not fly with any "check F.O.s" until after he upgrades. Thats probably a little ways off. He'll still get a pay raise and all sorts of benefit and QOL improvements though, so thats cool.

Southwest CEO: Atlanta Market Ripe for Expansion

ATLANTA, GA (WABE) - Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly, talking to analysts Thursday about the upcoming merger with AirTran, said acquiring the discounter will bring in cash from day one.

"They have already established profitability in what will be new Southwest markets," he said.

But Kelly's comments indicate Southwest plans to fatten that cash cow a bit more.

AirTran brings to the merger new routes and passengers but more than that, it gives Southwest a rare growth opportunity.

"Most of those new markets are not fully developed and are in need of further expansion, and I would point to Atlanta in particular," Kelly said.

A Southwest spokesman tells WABE Atlanta's airport will provide more gates than the airline has at any other airport, which paves the way to expand service beyond what's already here.

Meanwhile, Southwest this week changed a standing order it had for 20 new planes. It's asked Boeing for bigger ones.
Jim Burress, WABE News.

Interesting that GK calls it a merger. Also he seems to be the best advocate for AAI pilots for the SLI arguments. He keeps telling what AI brings.

They bring what they negotiated in their contract. Nothing more.

Keep saying that. Yeah, the arbitrator(s) are listening to you. Isn't it great they just got a new contract over at Airtran? That helps them get closer to your contract, and that means not as much of a windfall, meaning closer to relative seniority is possible.

So I got called out by one of my own for being too conciliatory- (as if anyone is actually fighting except for the handful tossing bombs anonymously here...)

It's not that I think Ty is right- I'd be surprised if a good portion of the FOs don't end up below me- and I seriously doubt any AT pilot will be slotted above their DOH-

What I stand strongly behind is that it doesnt matter what our opinions are.
And how could I ever delude myself into thinking I'm going to anonymously attack some guy code named rodeo star and win and all will be well-

No communication here has an upside- the downside I've seen is when these exchanges get taken seriously and snowball into real life- I've seen it and it gets ugly- especially when people make the leap that what they read here is at all representative of some majority of one side instead of the militant views of the 1%ers

And I seriously resent any US vs THEM division-

Maybe it's the athlete in me- but we are on the same team now, like it or not- this is not a competition and certainly shouldn't be the days of our lives dramatic entertainment that it clearly is for some of you.

I expect maturity- and For the most part we're seeing it- there will always be a handful of instigators

Please tell me you're joking! As I've said on another thread, the AT pilots really should understand that without this ACQUISITION, there would be nothing more than a crappy 9 year old contract and a big NO from the NMB following their request for release.

Absolutely nothing in that new contract will have any bearing on the degree of the windfall they will receive.

Ok, Ok, youre right. We're bringing you 550 airplanes.

Don't forget the additional 221 orders and -800's in the largest domestic network. I think that pretty much covers their 50 orders and 86 717's.
