I have several trips coming up to MMSD (Cabo) and I am have trouble finding a weather provider that has radar imagery for Mexico. It is easy to find SAs TAFs and satillite imagery but not radar. I do not plan on using a handler so I am looking for another source. Any ideas?
I've flown down to South America quite a bit and pretty much we lose all hope for weather radar once you cross the US border. I've never found it... but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist... but probably not on the internet or duats..
I've asked FSS's and they don't know either.. How's your spanish? You might want to give a call down to the Mexican Weather Service, they might be able to help you out.
Suggest you contact Universal Weather and Aviation (Uvair) or Wilkens Weather Technologies, a division of Air Routing, both based in Houston. They can get you any weather info you need, they are the absolute experts.
I fly into Mexico and points south on a regular basis. WSI has radar images almost to Cabo and down past Cancun. That plus the satellite imagery goes a long way. That is as good as it gets. Cause no one has it either. It goes back to the days when all you had was a FSS briefing and a prog chart. No Weather Channel or Computer WX.
Weather in Mexico!? Come on. If there isn't a swirly thing off the coast on the satillite shot, It's beautiful and the margaritas are flowing! Have one for me.
Seriously, There aren't many good sources unless your company has it's own meteorologists. You have to interpret your own weather a bit. I have flown that route many times and have never had a problem. The MX controllers are pretty good but the Wx guy es Loco! Watch out for the steep landing fees at Cabo! The boss will not like them!
We go down to Mexico on a fairly regular basis. Try a good search engine and use "Mexico weather or Mexico Radar". I found one or two that were ok but can't remember the sites.
