How many pilots do they have furloughed vs howmany on the property, vs how many projected to retire?? I'm just trying to understand how it is that they just furloughed 123 pilots this month, and yet NWA and CAL are either recalling or talking about it..

What's the problem over at AA?? When are they going to turn the corner and start to recall?

Sorry again, if this seems stupid to ask.

From V70T5:
Patiently waiting for it all to get back to normal (what ever that is)

You may be waiting a very long time...

V:

About 2500 furloughed.

AA is grounding the rest of the F-100 fleet later this year, that is part of the reason for the furloughs.
Then there is the oil prices.
They are pretty tight-AAssed right now as they think it is more cost effective to have senior guys fly 85 hours a month instead of recalling junior bodies.

Not as many early retirements as expected are perhaps another part of the puzzle?

Beats me: The additional furloughs this fall came as a surprise to quite a few, the 123 included....

Sad... I guess I need to change that signature block (which I did shortly after 9/11) don't I.

It may never get back to normal.

The 123 are for Oct. and they were always scheduled. I think guys just forgot or became overly optomistic when they saw summer loads so good. They will draw down the schedule after the summer travel season and the F100 groundings are a part of the picture as well so fewer pilots needed to fly the schedule.

and they were always scheduled

Well, yes, but.

They were not really scheduled, but they were part of the agreement.
In other words, APA had agreed that AA could furlough so many pilots, like a worst case scenario..Not sure that we all thought it would happen.

It did.

Funny thing is, you don't see the guys flying the line complaining about flying the 85 hours. They are more than happy to pick up the slack and watch more of their junior guys walk the unemployment line.

I believe the "agreement" allows for at least another 500 furloughs (maybe more, maybe less....can't rememeber the number).

Any bets on when AA furloughs the final batch? I am guessing they will be gone by the new year.

Chiefs are saying this will be the last with recalls to start next year depending on the economy, oil, other airlines ups or downs, etc. etc.

I was told about that same thing about 1 month before I was furloughed. I hope it doesn't happen....but I am a realist. AA will go all the way to the last number.
Guaranteed.

But at least the guys not being furloughed will be able to increase their blocks by another 5 hours or so a month.

Their is a post on the APA web site that mentions future additional furloughs in January

Heard from a chief that age 60 will go away soon due to PBGC payout amounts if you go out at 65-- if it goes that far with UAL. ALPA is now behind it as is SWAPA, although the APA stance still supports 60.

This isn't going to help recalls in the slightest. AA was nice, I probably won't see it again. Unfortunate to all.

You guys see the C&R post about AMR buying UAL? Save one carrier and then will have to file CH.11 after it's done. Makes one wonder what some of these analysts are thinking.

Yeah, lets' see......

No more F-100s next month....

The majority of lineholders picking up extra time to "make up" for the pay cuts....

Fall bookings down....

Oh, yeah, how about we have the old guys stick around another three years or so to make sure their pension numbers recover from the pay cut? You don't need that pension or even that JOB, do you, junior guy?

I thought that we were done with the furloughs after the March round. I was wrong. Right now I am clinging to the hope that AA is using the Oct furloughs as a bargaining chip - they will come to the APA on Sep 15th and say "We will NOT furlough these guys if you give us a combined 737 domestic/intl division!". Which will of course result in more efficiency, and the furlough of more pilots.....

As that one guy says on C&R......round and round we go!

Does anyone have anything nice to say?? ;-)

Does anyone have anything nice to say??

Nope, it has been a long time since there was any good news from AA or any good rumors floating around.

Not complaining however, look at United or USAirways, them guys are in worse shape, pension wise and otherwise.

Just faxed in a resume to a non-sched cargo outfit...Back to being on the road 20 days in a row, back to the 40 hour days, and all for half price.

Got to prostitute myself for a few more years before that recall note from AA will come a-knockin.

Don't stop the carnival...:-(
