If it's called Canyon Blue then why does it look purple? Or am I color blind?

Just go with it.....it only looks purple due to the refraction of the longer wavelengths of light in the Dallas smog.

SWA has, literally, some startling paint schemes.

However, when I saw Independance Air's new scheme, I knew they were doomed. I figured that if their upper management approved that paint scheme after actually seeing the colors, they were in for a lot more managerial errors in the future.

I like the Canyon blue better'n the Desert gold. But man that blue stuff fades quickly!!!!

I hope we got a warranty with that color!

You're a guy. You are only programmed to see 16 colors like the old Microsoft Windows.

Blue is a legitimate color, so is purple. Canyon Blue is something some chick or someone wanting to be a chick invented to confuse you. But then again, chicks and those wanting to be chicks never made any sense either...

Kind of like the SNL skit from a couple years ago with Robert DeNiro. He plays a DHS agent describing the new color scheme for the terror alerts. The colors were supplied by J Crew. Now THAT was a funny skit.

It's supposed to be inspired by a 'Canyon sunrise.' So it's a deep morning blue, or something.

GSD&M, our advertising agency, actually came up with the design.

We joke that some of those creative types must have been smoking some serious doobies if they looked into the sky and saw that blue color.

The story that they (GSD&M) give behind those colors is that the Canyon Blue is the new color to honor our current and future employees, and the traditional red belly is a tribute to our original employees who started the airline.

When the new paint scheme was first introduced, several of our DAL ramp agents were gathered around the plane. Not realizing that a news reporter was standing nearby, one of them said to the other, "Well, we got rid of those colors, but we didn't get rid of the ugly."

That quote made the paper the next day. Classic.

Like everyone else, I wondered aloud where they came up with the Canyon Blue color scheme when it was introduced a few years back. I was at work one day and a non-revving pilot stopped me, pointed out the window and said..."See the sunset, that's where they got the idea for the paint scheme from." I stopped and looked and sure enough, if you look for it you can kinda see it. A large band of "Canyon Blue" across the top of the sky, fading to a distinct band of yellow and finally a distinct band of red. I did a little Google search to see if I could find an example...this is one is pretty close...the second link is a picture of the current livery. If you look at one and then the other...you can kinda see what they were going for...kinda.

Depending on the perspective and weather conditions the connection can be more or less easily appreciated. Anyway...that's what I was told...take it for what it's worth.
