I sent an e-mail to Lindsey asking about some of the discussion items above. Here is her reply:

"Hey (thebluto)!

Yes, there are a lot of rumors about what we will do when interviews
start up! Lots of people think they know the answers! To be totally
honest we don't know, several things are still up for debate. Yes, we
are switching to a competitive basis when pulling people in for
interviews, but we are also very aware that many of you have sat on file
for a long time. Southwest uses both their heads and heart when
thinking about these things, so we are trying to find a good balance.
At this point no decisions have been made.

As for the online application, the last thing we want is a "free for
all" Right now our plan is to do a full update with all of those on
file. (so that we can look at your most recent info when pulling in
people for interviews) Hopefully this update will be via online.
Essentially it will be the same info you provided the first time, but
this will let us get the update faster, and let you all help us with the
cumbersome task of data entry! After those on file have had a chance to
update, we will probably open the window again and let others apply.

Sorry I don't have more concrete information to give you. We are
hoping by the end of the year to have everything in place. Feel free to
check in anytime! Hopefully next year will bring a good Jayhawk
basketball season and interviews at SWA!

Thank you for that e-mail. It seems like mentioned before it will still be subjective. Competitive criteria but at the same time considering when people apply. Sounds somewhat subjective to me. In other words when you apply will be considered as part of your competitiveness among other things...
