WOW, thank you all for such wonderful responses, I have thought about taking the ground school they offer to supplement my "Cleared for Takeoff" syllabus. I like John and Martha King, but did you know the guy from who wants to marry a millionaire is one of the "instructors" on the videos? That was a shock, I didnt think that guy was smart enough to flip a light switch, I guess if he can do it, so can I.

Since you mention that you're using the cleared for takeoff series, i'll add this advice-- Read the book! As you said, Rick Rockwell is awful to listen to, and the others aren't much better. I didn't realize just how much I wasn't paying attention until it came time to review. Follow along in the book; the text really is very well done and explains it in such a way that you'll be able to explain it to the examiner when he asks. It's not very in-depth, but at this stage in the game, it has everything you need. I also found that taking notes to along with the cd-course helped, even if i had no intentions of ever looking over them-- it just forced me to pay attention.
As for the oral exam guide, that's more for your instructor to ask questions from than for you to study from. Learn the material from the videos/cd-roms and from your instructor, then translate that into answers for your instructor's questions from the exam guide.

Hope that helps

Oral Exam/ Cleared for Takeoff Course

Smokehouse,

I just took my checkride on sunday (6/8) an aced the ride an the oral portion. Infact I was the examiners shortest oral hes ever had 42min. What I found key was getting out the PTS that came with your Cessna Private Pilot kit an going through it. The PTS is your bible. That is the test! Know that front an back an you'll be fine. Another thing to knowing the material an impressing your DE is sounding confident an UNDERSTANDING what your talking about. Anyone can memorize something but sooner or later your going to forget it. So just take some time out an motivate yourself a little bit each day an study. Sooner or later you'll realize how easy you can go through that PTS with no problems.
