Airbus Aims A320neo at Republic in Potential CSeries Clash


Airbus SAS said it’s in talks with Republic Airways Holding Inc. about an order for A320neo jets, potentially boosting sales momentum for the narrow-body airliner three months after its introduction.
Airbus Chief Operating Officer John Leahy declined to discuss details of a possible agreement in a telephone interview today. The A320neo features improved engines that burn less fuel.
“The world’s airlines are taking the A320neo very seriously,” Leahy said in the interview. With 302 commitments for the plane, the A320 is enjoying the “fastest rate of sales we’ve ever seen.”
Republic, which owns Frontier Airlines and four regional carriers, already flies Airbus A320 and A319 jets. Frontier operates regularly scheduled flights under its own name, while Republic’s other airlines ferry passengers to hubs for five major U.S. carriers.
“As current Airbus customers, we are major advocates of more-fuel-efficient aircraft and we are discussing the Neo with them,” Carlo Bertolini, a spokesman for Indianapolis-based Republic, said in an e-mail today. “We don’t have any specifics beyond that.”
’Loyal Customer’

Republic agreed in February 2010 to buy 40 Bombardier Inc. (BBD/B) CSeries regional jets valued at $3.06 billion. Both Bombardier and Airbus market their new single-aisle jets as more fuel efficient upgrades of existing models. The CSeries has received no new orders since Republic’s order.
“Republic is a valued and loyal customer and we look forward to delivering CSeries to them,” Bombardier spokesman John Arnone said.
American International Group Inc. (AIG)’s jet-leasing unit said today it will buy 100 Airbus aircraft and 33 Boeing Co. (BA) 737s, $11.8 billion in planes at list prices. International Lease Finance Corp. said its deal with Airbus consists of 75 A320neo narrow-body jets and 25 A321neo planes. That replaces a plan to buy 10 A380 superjumbo jets, which list for about $375 million each.
Airbus has won several commitments or orders for the A320neo since introducing the aircraft in December. Indian low- cost carrier IndiGo pledged in January to buy 150 of the A3230neo. Billionaire Richard Branson’s Virgin America Inc. said the same month that it would buy 30 of the revamped planes as well as 30 of the current model.
The Airbus A320neo comes with a geared turbofan engine built by United Technologies Corp. (UTX)’s Pratt & Whitney unit and the Leap-X from CFM International, the venture of General Electric Co. (GE) and Safran SA (SAF) of France.

Paper airplanes don't pay very well.
 
Hmmm, which is the better option? An updated version of a tried and true design or some engineers wet dream on a computer?
 
My Guess is we will never see the C-Series on property at any of the RAH companies!! I think it was Bedford's way to Prime Negociations with Airbus, Embraer and or Boeing..........
 
The C series hasn't been selling well.. I wouldnt be surprised if they scraped the thing

Sorry, I know this is off-topic, but this (^) made it worth the read itself!

Last thing we need is another transcon, 100-seat airplane, people call an "RJ" to justify paying RJ wages...

The CS series going away is a good thing for all of us RAH Employees, not just F9.

IMO, one of the two decisions that caused F9's BK was the completely uneducated and uninformed decision to move to Airbii from Boeings. No one had the slightest idea what that change over would cost. Of course the decision probably kept us off the bottom of SWA's list for good......
 
Back in 2008 Bombardier was so excited about this. Perhaps the industry is taking heed of the past in regards to the regional "phenomenon".
Would be good to see more major airlines working to expand their fleets and taking regional pilots instead of majors subbing out work to other companies.
 
the c series weighs 25 or 30K pounds less than a 320 and carries 20 fewer passengers. It will be a very efficient aircraft.

Had they not switched to Airbuses, they would have been SWA pilots long ago. They never would have been mixed up with this RAH suckhole.

You're g-damn right we are regretting not being part of SWA instead of being raped by the IBT pilots, but as we all know, we had no decision in the ultimate outcome.

Oh come on, in seven years 80 percent of the republic pilots will not be at republic and thats assuming we stay in business that long.

Uh, not really. They wanted to staple us to THEIR list, not our own. There is a difference. That would have been a more equitable result. That horrendous POS IMSL that the arbitrator handed down will forever doom this pilot group to an Airways type situation.
 
Im a CHQ guy so I have a bit invested in this, but it doesn't take an MBA to see that RAH/F9 will not exist in 7 years so this conversation is really a moot point. If I were a F9 guy I would be looking for a job elsewhere just like the rest of us are. BB and company do not have the knowledge, skill set, or infrastructure to run there own airline. As soon as the fixed fee contracts that carry this company financially expire this company is done.
