And in 15-20 years from now when the last 57 gets parked in the desert, the Douglas products like the DC-3, DC-4, DC-9 and most definitely the DC-8 will still be out there. Maybe not in great numbers, but they will be still chugging along.

...um...Hi Asquared.

What pays your bills?

A DC3?
A DC4?
A DC8?
A DC9?

Probably not the LR25...
Just curious.

Mar, you trying to stir up trouble here??:)

Yeah, I noted the rather conspicuous (dare I say ...unforgiveable?) gap in Lr-25's list of fine aircraft. I would reccomend to Lr-25 that in the interests of not having to endure another one of my rants, he go back and edit his list of aircraft........

I pay my bills with whatever I can find a job flying.

As far as a list of "fine" aircraft, that is a completely different subject as to what this topic is.

But I will add that any of the recipe powered Douglas's made I would put them in the "fine" catagory, and maybe a couple of the turbine variety also.

Don't be so easy yall.

With all the raving on the Boeings, it just wouldnt be right not to throw in a word or two about Douglas's

Lr-25,

I think we're all thinking along the same lines here. mar and I both fly the DC-6, and we were just commenting, tounge in cheek of course, about the absence of the DC-6 from your list of Dougs which will still be plugging away for years to come.

The 75 can't do NY to London/Paris/Frankfurt with a full load? Even the later ER versions?

I just did a flight from O'Hare direct to Dublin in a 757-200. We were almost full and had no problems. I love this plane but I prefer the 76 as a passenger.

757 can go to London, Paris, and the ER to Frankfort no problem with a full load out of JFK. The 767 is used to add additional capacity.

My $.02...

With all due respect to LR-25, you can't beat the 757. I started out in DC-3's, flew MD products, and finally flew the 757 for 3 glorious years. Boeing got that one right folks. A 737 is simply not a 757. When everyone else needed the longest runway, doing a bleeds/packs off, apu on, everbody-pick-up-your-feet-and-lean-forward, max-blow T/O, we would be reducing power off the shorter runway with a full boat in the 757. Amazing performance, no doubt about it. Douglas never produced anything like the 757.

The 757:

She's Tall, Sexy, With Long Legs, and Big Cans!

--------------

Aulthough the 75 line is stopping they'll be around for a LONG time to come....

Thats what I was thinking. We don't have to be sad just yet, theyre are still BUNCHES of this plane around, and most in relatively good shape. Which makes me happy cause maybe even I will get a chance to fly one someday before they're all gone!:D

Guess I'll have to object for the sake of a debate.
What a shock.

I remember my first 7-5 ride at Eastern...it was the first time I saw a shockwave making its strange little dance on a wing. Compared to the 727's, DC-8's and DC-9's I'd been on, the 757 climbed like a rocket. Incredible airplane.

Incidentally, at Eastern, because of the complicated lease-back arrangements, they were called "WhisperDebts." :D

RJ Glut! RJ Glut! It's the end of the RJ era!

Hey, wait a minute...

Mar, Asquared........

I get the picture, I usually get ripped by someone when I mention Douglas to a bunch of Boeing folks.

I flew DC-3's and the ATL 98 Carvair for a little bit, and also I am a mechanic on DC-8's and 9's.

I only know of a couple of 6's flying personally and one DC-7.

Where do you guys fly the 6 at?

Lr25,

we fly them in Alaska, for differnet companies. My company is currently operating 10 6's and Mar's comapny has a similar number.
