Don't look at Republic...with the very rare exception of the Denver base for Frontier, management has had zero interest in having west coast flying and bases. Even when mother Delta had the Shuttle America 170's doing a lot of flying out of SLC, there was no crew base and as soon as possible the planes were sent to ATL. Republic resists going west... perhaps it is too far from the mothership. I guess it is easier to hide on-time and reliability problems when you can blame weather, ATC, and congestion for missed performance numbers. Out west things flow well, and you only have yourself to blame.
 
SHUT IT DOWN. This type of management harrassment really needs to stop. The only thing we as pilots have for leverage is the work we do. If the music stops, poeple start to listen.


First, I would love to see a company shut down by the pilots over contracted flying...but it will never happen. Second, how is this any different than Pen air or ERA aviation doing work for you guys already? If the line wasn't drawn with Pen air then why would anyone suspect it to be drawn with Compass? I hope I never see another contract operator flying for you guys....hold the line.

Yawn....... this is all just guessing. We are in contract negotiations and there will be all kinds of rumors flying around. Ahhh, I'm so scared someone will take my flying, I better take a pay cut...

I would be kinda shocked to see anything like this for us with the Delta side running the show. Maybe we will have more Salt Lake flying or something like that. Besides I most of us may be on the street again by the end of the year with this merger.

Being wholly own by NWA could Compass even do flying for anyone else? In other words, as Mesaba and Comair and Eagle are wholly owned by NWA and DAL and AMR respectively, are they able to bid for other flying, like for UAL or something? I thought the wholly owned regionals were locked in to flying for the carrier that owns them and that is it.

I am considering a lateral move to Compass and this could possibly play into my decision which has to be made in the next week.
 
I don't think it's wise to consider anything lateral now. Stay wherever you are. Your chance of guessing tomorrow's success is just that: a guess.

I know. Things were much different where I work when I applied to Compass, and then the day I interviewed my current company got some good news from our main source of business. But now I'm left with a tougher decision! Alright my thread hijack is over except my question does remain about wholly owned carriers being able to bid for Alaska RJ flying with the rest of the regionals, if anyone can answer that.

i.e. Mesaba could not get a CPA with American
i.e. Comair could not get a CPA with Continental

Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines are both owned by Alaska Air Group.

Alaska Air Group allowed Horizon to bid for and conduct Frontier Jet Express flying. I don't see why another network carrier couldn't allow their wholly-owned "regional" to bid to conduct contract flying for a third-party network carrier. Question is, would they?

Dude, I know it's easier to not worry about it, but never stop looking over your shoulder. Set yourself up to be surprised that nothing happened, not surprised that you're all of the sudden out of a job.

agreed. i get the point to your "yawn" but scope is not something that should be yawned at. 170's and 190's for sure ARE MAINLINE airplanes... if you allow- after seeing the affect at every legacy carrier- to let your junior pilots get furloughed, while allowing them at the same time to outsource flying- you are complete a$$holes- and have learned nothing. Unions and seniority are meaningless if you let this practice go on-== it should be an immediate slow down, ground roots, uncontrollable by the union, chaos strike if they try it.
 
I've brought up the Compass rumor here before and got yelled at for it by QX folks. I'm hoping it doesn't happen (or Republic, Skywest, etc...any third party). One thing that makes me doubtful that NWA would let Compass bid for AS flying is the fact that AS would most likely want the vendor to supply the aircraft...and with the costs associated with this merger I can't imagine NW/DL are looking to burn through any more cash than necessary. Also, NW has traditionally held their regionals (wholly-owned and non) fairly closely...they only recently allowed (non-wholly-owned) Pinnacle to seek out third party flying, and they extracted their pound of flesh for the privilege.

At least that's my hope. I wish to remain on speaking terms with my friends at AS & QX. :(
 
It is a bummer that I am coming to FI to see if I am going to get furloughed. I felt really comfortable coming to the Eskimo because they never furloughed after 9-11. I hope that the senior guys and the NC fight for us junior folks.

I hope you're kidding... unlike several other posters who seem to take this original post as some official source of news. You guys (who are taking this serious) are being ridiculous! Sure, it's good to be prepared, don't put anything past the CEO, look over your shoulder, etc. But it's regoddamndiculous to take what someone on this board posts as fact unless they can cite a real source.

This is just the company negotiating away from the table. Same way they tell the rest of the world we are the second highest paid in the country.

Scope? I can do nothing as a line pilot but support my MEC. They are the ones looking out for me. Sitting and complaining on the flight deck or net does nothing but rise your blood pressure. They can't bring me down.

Furlough? Who cares. If I was not absolutely ready to STRIKE, I might care. My house is in order. You freek about this and you are telling the company you are not ready to walk.

MY MEC SPEAKS FOR ME.
