I remember Emery and I am only 24. :)

If your panties are this wadded up at 24, I'd hate to have you as my FO when you grow up.

If not wanting to have my face all over the internet on someone else's video without seeing the finished product means my panties are in a wad, then so be it. There is nothing wrong with joking around, I just believe that there is a line between what has class and what does not. You know what they say about opinions...that is merely my own.

As for Caneman's videos...he's a freghtdog. As someone else said, he has paid his dues. Unfortunately anyone in the flying public that views that video may not be smart enough to figure out that he's only flying freight in that airplane. This post is not intended to flame anyone, but simply provide my own opinion in a constructive manner. If you don't like it, you are entitled to your own.

Personally I think it was a great video. Sure he was screwing around some, but he looked very professional and locked-in during the approach to landing. (As I have never flown anything nearly the size of a DC-8 I cannot comment on the GPWS or Glideslope warnings.) I must ask why it matters that he's flying a plane full of boxes or people. I would expect the same professionalism from everyone regardless of what is behind the cockpit door. A plane crash that kills several tons of boxes is still a plane crash and casts a negative light on flying. Beyond that do consider that the video was not continuous and could have been cut to show more goofiness than seriousness.

Gee, why didn't I think of that? I forgot that the innocent folks on the ground never get hurt if GPWS warnings are not adheared to.

Stupid equipement...rip it out and make room for boxes.

Very simply because of the impression that it may give to the average flying public. I don't think that they would be very concerned with the actions of a bunch of pilots flying boxes, but if they get the mistaken impression that pilots are behaving as such on a flight that has a load of people on board it obviously can reflect very poorly on all of us.

Again, I'm not bashing Caneman. I have watched his other videos and I enjoyed them. I'm all about comedy, Will Ferrell is one of my all-time heroes. I'm simply stating my opinion regarding anything on the net (Brandon Coxton's webpage included) that if viewed by folks that are not pilots, may reflect on the professional images of all of us.

I must have missed his feats of heroism.

....

Saw the video too. Give the guy a break. Safety wasnt being compromised during this video. And all you "flightinfo check airman" are melting down because he gets a sinkrate callout (or whatever it was, i cant even remember now). your not going to die because of a single call. I;m sure you critics of the GPWS callout during the video havent ever gotten one, ever, right?

Hey Caneman, have you ever (seriously) though about making something similar to the King Video series for PVT-CFII?? You could replace John and Martha King (including her Annie wig) with your black hairdo and shades. No joke. Somebody has to take over teaching the ground lessons when those two kick the bucket.

For everyone who said I should go to the dentist, WATCH this Entire Video. Its wild toward the end...I'll pay for your therapy afterwards.

For all the guys, lets see..I have an ATP 14000 hours, 9000 PIC, 6000 PIC Heavy Jet, ASES, Glider-CFI, and F/E. Flying is great and I never planned on quitting. In 2001 Emery Worldwide Airlines locked out all thier pilots. The got contractor's (scabs to me) to fly all the freight. They turned in thier certificate to the FAA to get out of our ALPA contract (Screw ALPA), changed the name from EWA to Menlo, and sold it to UPS without the pilots. I miss flying but acting and comedy is more fun to me nowdays. In the old days we flew 12 days a month for $130,000 a year. Now the "Stuff and S**t" I see pays only $60,000 a year for jet captain giving 21+ days a month. I can do the math, not my scene. Flying is fun but its a job not My Hobby. A house in the Wesr costs a million dollars now day. After I got laid off from EWA I lost my 6000' sq foot home and all my money. I'm now poor and live in a 23' RV, but I am Happy. Perhaps I will fly a Biz-Jet soon. But only as the rich guy in the back.

As far as the "Captain Caneman DC8" video..NO FARs were broken. The video is two different trips. There were jumpseaters taking the video. The landing was on a short 6000' runway in Europe after a 10 our flight. Its not a hard landing for a DC8, and the GPWS went off because I HAD TO plant it on the numbers for a short field landing. And a DC8 is old with minimum maintence at these carriers. You can hear just a few seconds after touchdown 3000' remaining. As far as the gear down at 1000 feet. Thats OK for me--SOP. I like to go power idle at top of descent, glide down to 1500' then spool them up for landing without touching the power during the descent. Saves Fuel.. And I make all the profiles and speed restrictions on the approach.

I may be a "wierd-stupid-loose-crazy guy" in the videos, BUT when Im flying I always make sure to stay within the FARs and "Saftey is Number One" Im Not A Fool. Just a Comic.....Maybe I should start to make new training videos. At least guys might stay awake in ground school..

Take Care ALL You ALLS..
