Following Falcon Capt's lead....introducing my new avatar!

You won't find that in any restaurant, my friends, this is down and dirty southern brazilian style country cookin!

Smokin' Meat

Crash-Proof, That is an absolutely beautiful avatar. I don't know what I like more-BBQ avatars or avatars with sexy girls. Better yet, someone needs to get an avatar with BBQ, bikini-clad babes and beer in it! Back on the BBQ subject, Joe Allen's BBQ in Abilene TX is worth the trip also. I know it's kinda out of the way for most folks, but aren't most great BBQ joints? Great thread guys! Keep 'em coming! Keep the ideas rollin'- I'll gladly travel wherever the scent of mesquite and hickory smoke takes me!

Abilene, huh? Maybe I'll have to make the trip. Is there a crew car or some way to get from the airport to Joe Allen's? Never been up there beyond flying over on the way to Lubbock for the Tech game last season (stupid Red Raiders!).

Hey BigD, Pretty sure Abilene Aero has some courtesy cars. I don't know for sure since I have family there that gives me a lift whenever I run down there. It's hard to beat Cooper's, but they do a pretty good job in Abilene. Joe Allen's has a steakhouse there also that cooks a VERY good steak. The BBQ place and steakhouse are at separate locations in Abilene. Looks like you may have to make 2 trips!

FlyChicaga, If we could figure out how to make chickens lay those instead of eggs, we'll be millionaires! Millionaires with gigantic beer bellies, that is.

Happy eating!

Sounds good, TX_Pilot. Speaking of Steak places, there's a joint in Coleman Texas that's pretty good. Only been up there once, though.

Just one more comment:

I realize that Famous Daves may seem like small beans to most of you, but the last two times I landed in cities with one, corporate jet crews stole my courtesy car, forcing me to use vending. I own the following courtesy cars, so please check if there's a lifeguard king air inbound before taking them:

KRST - the blue Buick
KFSD - Ford Taurus
KOMA - whatever the TAC Air car is that day
KSTP - The PT cruiser at Regent
KMSP - whatever the car is at Signature

Thanks for your time.

p.s. Tony Romas is also good, although more expensive

DFW Metroplex BBQ joints

I guess it's obvious I love BBQ since I've contributed to this thread more than any other since I've been coming here...

More places for good BBQ around DFW:
1.) The Railhead smokehouse in Colleyville-on 121 west of DFW
and the original in Fort Worth near downtown at I-30 and
Mongomery
2.) Angelo's-North of dowtown Fort Worth on White Settlement
Blvd.
Highly recommended. Used to frequent both when I lived there instructing at Meacham. And, to fan the flames of the Dallas vs. Fort Worth war, the staff at the Railhead Smokehouse wears T-shirts that say "Life is too short......To Live in Dallas..."

BigD, we may need to start a thread on Steakhouses too, since there are alot of good ones in some out of the way places.

I agree! My dream has always been to own a private airport, and allow anyone with a plan for a kick-ass restaurant to build on my land for free. If the restaurant is good enough, people would drive in from town as well as fly in from around the state. My biggest complaint about Texas is the lack of airports with food right on the airfield. I feel like there's enough demand to justify building such a place if the capital/investors were there.

I just wish I had money growing from trees!

Jergar999,

I used to live in Rochester....many moons ago. There used to be a little BBQ joint on HWY 52N, up around John Marshall High School (on the west side of the highway). I don't remember the name for sure, something like Cheap Charlies. Is it still there? I've never heard of The Blue Buick.

All this talk of BBQ, by the way....THANKS GUYS:p ....got me thinking about places of old and your post on Rochester brought a flood of mouth watering, fall off the bone rib memories.

Thanks!

...Off to get more BBQ! Good thing there is a grocery store a mile away, otherwise the first pig I came across would be in the backyard pit slooooooooooooowly turning!...

One more for good pulled pork and sauce:

Spiced Right BBQ in Lilburn, GA right outside ATL near Stone Mtn.

Good pulled pork buffet and more types of sauce than you shake a stick at.

"Mmmmmm, put a bowl uh that own yer hayed an yer tounge'll beat yer brains out tryin tuh git to it!"

Happy Memorial day and God bless the troops who make it happen!

Louisville

There's a couple of spots around the airport, Marks's Feed Store and also Firehouse. Mark's is pretty crowded during lunch so get there early. The Firehouse is a little better I think, and about a 20 minute ride from the airport.
