So…I was contemplating a BBQ.

I was thinking maybe a brisket or nice slab of ribs but then one begins to consider sauces, marinades, dry rubs, seasonings and condiments.

Man, Memorial Day is closing fast! What’s a hungry camper to do?

I'm curious...why is it that the Falcon trijets only have a reverser on the #2 engine?

But seriously - Memorial Day is PERFECT for BBQ! Although I think I'm gonna spend this one out on the lake.

Hmmmm...I wonder if I can set up a grill on the sailboat?
 
Hard to go wrong with a good pork shoulder. Some seasoning, salt, and a touch of vinegar. MMMMMmmmmm.

BigD - Falcons only reverse #2 because the French have commitment issues.

Beef - North Main Street in Eulous, TX
Brunswick Stew - Old Hickory House in Atlanta GA
Chicken - Greenbrier in North Alabama (White Sauce)
Hash - Little Pigs in Anderson, SC
Mutton - Moonlite in Owensboro, KY
Pork - Maurice's in Columbia, SC (Mustard Sauce)
Ribs - Dreamland in Tuscaloosa, AL

Speaking of BBQ...does anyone know how to redeem the Omaha Steak Bucks you earn from Mercury? I have about 20 bucks and am getting ready to have a big neighborhood BBQ. I was wondering if instead of using the catalog and mailing them in, can I just go to a BBQ store (like BBQ Galore), that sells Omaha steaks, and purchase them on site?

Any helpful hints are appreciated

Beef: leave that to Texans. They don't know Q.
Brunswick Stew: Castleberry's in the can
Chicken: don't know
Hash: Sconyer's, Augusta, GA
Mutton: Don't know
Pork: Sticky Fingers, Chattanooga, Charleston, SC, Summerville, SC, Jax Beach (near Craig), Hilton Head, Wilmington, Columbia
Ribs: Sticky Fingers

For a real treat, try Stanton's Fly-in Barbeque, complete with its own challenging airstrip (runway and taxiway are marked by white and blue milk crates) near Bennettsville, SC. Pilots and pax are escorted to the private dining room in the back.

Maurice's I was trying to remember the name of that place! Thanks for reminding me! That Pulled Pork Sandwich is amazing though it does take a few bites to get used to that vinegar base. It's certainly not ketchup like that most BBQ sauces are made of.
 
Why doesn't BBQ have its own section?

I must be pathetic. When I go on a longer flight I look forward to grabbing a courtesy car if time permits and going to Famous Daves for a beef brisquet sandwich and some beans. What it must be like to know where the really good places are, and have the time to pursue them. I need a good corporate job.

atlanta food

Old Hickory in Atlanta is good, if you wan some thing quick.

But after thinking it over you just cant beat Mortons Stake House down at leniox , man they do know how to cook a stake....:cool:

Oh ye my son, Famous Dave's is for amateurs.... Follow in the footsteps of the ones here and you will begin an dining adventure beyond your wildest dreams!

OK, I need to stop drinking in the mornings!

BTW, BBQ DOES have its own section, it's titled Corporate Aviation, we named it that as a brilliant disguise to keep out the amateurs and people who want to talk about airplanes!

That's why I posted the list.

We each gravitate to that with which we are accustomed (or grew up with). Aviation gives us the unique opportunity to try regional variations.

Though there's a special place in my heart for Spraberry's in Newnan, GA (first BBQ joint I remember as a child), I've learned to love the differences each region offers. Here are some basic differrences:

Meat: Mutton in KY, Pork in NC/SC/GA, Chicken in AL, Beef & Sausage in TX

Sauces: Vinegar & Pepper in NC, Mustard in Central SC, Ketchup in GA, etc., Mayonaise in North AL, Thick Ketchup in TN/TX.

A great book that covers this is the Jack Daniel's Barbecue Cookbook, JD Cookbook.

A Must read!

Crash-Proof, That is an absolutely beautiful avatar. I don't know what I like more-BBQ avatars or avatars with sexy girls. Better yet, someone needs to get an avatar with BBQ, bikini-clad babes and beer in it! Back on the BBQ subject, Joe Allen's BBQ in Abilene TX is worth the trip also. I know it's kinda out of the way for most folks, but aren't most great BBQ joints? Great thread guys! Keep 'em coming! Keep the ideas rollin'- I'll gladly travel wherever the scent of mesquite and hickory smoke takes me!

Abilene, huh? Maybe I'll have to make the trip. Is there a crew car or some way to get from the airport to Joe Allen's? Never been up there beyond flying over on the way to Lubbock for the Tech game last season (stupid Red Raiders!).
