Call me crazy but about 1/3 of the 717s that I see idling on the ramp are emitting a bit of white smoke out of the bottom of the #1 engine. Nobody seems to care, their line crews don't give it a second look. Is it normal, and what causes it?

I would be worried if only 1/3 of the 717's are doing it, THEY ALL SHOULD!!

It is perfectly normal for the BR-715 to vent a white smoke from the oil breather vent. It is most apparent at night when the lgo light is on.
