At least Delta chased AA out of ATL. The Delta G.O sits on top of one of AA's first maintenance hangars.

What killed Delta in DFW was AAdvantage and OneWorld. Business and other frequent travellers like frequent flyer programs (even AirTran has a loyal following who drink lots of soda from Wendys). Delta was always a second choice in DFW, simply because American had such a dominant position and could get you to far more places on the Globe.

The performance of Dallas improved with the RJ's (serving Delta's frequent flyers), but not enough to justify the costs. Being second choice meant that Delta had to always price under American and American was much quicker to react to September 11th, because they had to. American was cost competitive with where Delta is now about 4 or 5 years earlier than Delta. It was a combination of factors Delta could not beat.

Another huge problem with Delta is Atlanta.

Sooner or later, a Delta passenger has to deal with Fartsfield-Jackass.

The disgusting attitude that pervades that airport should give the City of Atlanta cause to shut the place down.

The disheveled, rude, illiterate workers there give everyone a bad attitude, and passengers probably choose to avoid Atlanta if at all possible.

It's a festering cauldron of "Southern Hospitality."

Wow......and truer words may never have been spoken! I cringe every time I witness a gate agent or food worker deal with the traveling public. On top of that, the C/D concourse for ASA is an utter embarassment! People walking all over the place, dodging cluttered ground equipment and baggage carts zooming all around them.....then walking up a dank, dark, cold or hot stairwell where I actually saw a RAT the other day! Great customer service Delta/ASA/Skywest!! We should be proud! And now, I suppose the C renovation is off. The should tear that blueprint plan down off the wall. WHAT A JOKE!!!!
