I'm a furloughed regional airline pilot. I have been awarded two class dates. One with SkyWest and the other with Republic Airways. I would really appreciate any information you could provide me that will help me make the best choice I can.

What are the projected hiring and retirement trends?
Which airline could provide the quickest upgrade?
How do the company's pay, retirement, and benefits compare with each other and the rest of the industry?
I'm not a big union guy, but I absolutely hate the whipsawing that management is playing on all regional airline pilots. Will SkyWest stand the line and not undercut every other airline pilot out there for there own benefit?
What are the odds that ASA goes on strike and SkyWest is forced to fly that struck work, thus black listing themselves from ever flying for an ALPA carrier ever again?
Which airline is at the biggest risk of losing there flying to another regional in the next five years?
Where are the junior bases for each airline?
And most importantly. I realize that a regional is a regional, but which company can you feel better about at the end of day.

Thank you in advance for any information you can provide!

Hey bro,

Thats alot of crazy questions, most of which can't be answered, partly because I am too lazy right now. But about a month ago I had a class date with both airlines. I chose SkyWest over Republic. I pretty much flipped a coin they are both good, dont sweat the ALPA stuff, who knows what will happen with that. I really chose SkyWest over Republic because in the long run I can get a base in warm weather and never have to dig my car out of 2 feet of snow again. Good luck bud. PM if you feel you need some more advice.

Well I admit I really don't know anything about Skywest. From what I hear they are a quality operation.

As far as size, they are about the same. Skyway has 250 aircraft and once Republic takes the 30 175 by the end of next year, they will have about 200 aircraft (includes Shuttle and CHQ). The pay is about the same with Republic starting out about $4 more per hour.

The only reason I would lean towards Republic is there will be about 140 pilots there under J4J that will be leaving for US Airways within they next 2 years. That will mean rapid movement. (Of course I don't know what attrition is like at Skywest) They are also just ramping up hiring for the 175's they start getting in a few months. Now would probably be a good time to get on. Another plus is that Republic operates the EMB 170/175 which you will like better than the CRJ's. Of course these are just my opinions... And as some else said, it also depends where you live.

SkyWest has about the same number of J4J guys from United. Not all of them are going back though

Anyone know how long it take to hold a line. I'm planning on just moving to the most junior base and staying there for awhile. Probably ORD since that is the closest to where I grew up.
