It's tough to live pretty much anywhere (except mom and dad's place) on first year pay at SkyWest as well.

Actually it will be 24 per month only. Thats straight from JS mouth. The reason being that is all we can handle a month based on available class room space at flight safety.
 
many of the FO's I have been flying with have been getting lines in 3-5 months. Life IS GREAT here at ASA. I'm having a ball! Don't let the grumps on this board keep you away. They're in the tiny minority.


That being said, you won't have to worry about being forced to belong to a union and pay dues for nothing at SkyWest and the DO have much better FA's.

Another thing to consider is training pay.

I know it's been discussed in other threads on this board, try doing a search.

I believe ASA pays you your regular 75hr guarantee plus a single occupancy room during training.

If SKYW doesn't do that, you may have to factor that into your budget for the first few months.
 
SKYW: No pay until IOE, you get to share a room in training (sometimes you'll get your own room, luck of the draw)
 
Don't pick an Airline based on Domicile alone!! Last time I checked DFW is still closed for ASA.

Live where you want to live. I have moved once for an Airline and will not do it again. If you happen to live in your Airline's domicile count your blessings.

This is true but in general...Skywest is more....and ASA (Atlantic Southeast Airlines) is more.......so if you want to live East...but if you want to live west...
 
On pass travel for skywest we get unlimted free travel on Delta and Delta Connection. On United we get mileage based fee passes and free United Express passes. The fee for United varies on the length of trip but mostly 10-15 dollars per leg in coach.
 
What priority does skywest have on the delta network? IF i had to guess itI would say S4. All of the wholly owned carriers are S3 with a limited number of S2's for each year.

Guess I must be hitting ATL at the wrong time because in the 18 to 20 days a month I spend at work I rarely run across people happy to be at ASA. I do talk to a lot of people who used to be happy here though.
 
I wouldn't say that I hate it at ASA, but QOL issues aren't getting any better here. i.e. front-loading CDOs, etc.

I have heard of front-loaded CDOs but I haven't experienced one directly. Is this something that happens on reserve? Extensions? Is it ever part of a regular line, or a relief line? Is it a predominantly flight-attendant phenomenon? I'm just curious as to how it happens (and how it can be avoided).

I didn't see any in last months bid packet for pilots, not sure about crew sched and what they would do to a res or rel guy.
 
I think most of the front loaded naps are on the 700

I was talking to a friend who had done a nap that went ATL-HSV-DCA then came back in the morning.

Said some of their nap lines were blocked to 60 hours.

I don't think scheduling is to the point that they are able to make up front loaded naps on the fly. Even with normal naps you don't usually have to deal with "made up" trips, you'll only get assigned naps that already exist. At least that's been my experience.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them soon though. The Company is getting braver and losing the nap grievance isn't going to help.

Nope....SkyWest just asks the non-revs to clean up before they deplane...cross seatbelts...pick up garbage...makes those 15 minute turns go on time.... Hey maybe thats why SkyWest is #1 on time!
 
You can't avoid front loaded CDO's.. This month I was integrated with a DAB nap, 5 hours on the ground. We left 1.5 hours late. Do the math, about 1.5 hours of sleep, just to come back and start a 4-day. Total BS!! If you due naps on a dailey basis, your body gets adjusted to it. But if you fly 3 or 4 day trips, it hurts. I'm just now catching up from that.

Sorry it came out that way. Didn't mean it to be condesending. In fact, I think the whole idea that Skywest asks (forces if you read anything from the travel center) its employees that are nonreving and are "off the clock" to clean airplanes is a joke.

You are completely ignorant, the FA is also "off the clock". Maybe it simply has something to do with helping a fellow employee out. Give a thought to thinking outside the box for once. Please put "homer" on my release so I can be sure to check for accuracy.

I don't think you were saying it, but just to be clear, DAB isn't a front-loaded nap, just a sh!tty one.

You are right that doing naps regularly allows you to adjust to them. Flying a nap with someone who doesn't usually do them is always interesting to us vampires.

stay out of the crew lounge (especially on C) and you won't meet all the unhappy folks. The only ones that hang out in there are the whiners.

Upgrade, as it was said by someone else...what upgrade is now is not a good representation of what it will be 2 or more years away. You just never know.

The question you have to ask is can you live in LAX or SAN on 1st, 2nd or even 3rd year FO pay on a Brazilia?????? Heck, its tough to live in ATL on first year FO pay.

Ultimately though, they are both good companies, I would be more inclined to pick based on where you want to live as opposed to what you "think" upgrade will be.


Well, there's a second year FO who just got his first line telling this 5 year FO how great the company is... whatever.

Not ASA

I would go Skywest. I hear the upgrade is much sooner. Upgrade is everything, regionals are not a place to stay. I can say from experience ASA does not care about their pilots. Why would you come to a place that does not care about you and the upgrade is 4-5 years. Reserve really sucks at ASA. They are getting so cheap or stupid they don't want to staff properly. Crossing a few seatbelts on your way off the airplane is hardly considered "cleaning the airplane." It's just a courtesy and part of a company culture. If someone has a tight connection they're going to skip it and be on their way.

To be fair, people that got hired at SkyWest 3 years ago could be jet captains now if they wanted to be. The junior Brasilia CA's in LAX were hired about 1.5 years ago. It's still tough to find a place to live (forget about buying a house!) in the Southern California area on SkyWest wages, but if you're going to compare, you do have to take the upgrade into account.
