PHILADELPHIA, Jan 15 (Reuters) - SkyWest Inc. (SKYW.O: Quote, Profile , Research), which operates regional air service for United Airlines and Delta Air Lines, said on Monday its fourth-quarter profits would be dampened by airport closures, as well as training and maintenance costs.
The company expects its fourth quarter net income to be in the range of $28.5 million, or 44 cents a share, to $32.3 million, or 50 cents a share.
The results were hurt by bad weather, which caused Denver International Airport to close for two days in December and other flights to be canceled.
Also, SkyWest said it faced costs to train its pilots in preparation of flying additional planes for Midwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines. It also incurred maintenance charges for aircraft that were transitioned between Atlantic Southeast Airlines and SkyWest.
SkyWest said it would release its fourth-quarter results on February 7.

I sure hope the shareholders grill SkyWest management as to why they felt the need to incur additional charges to transfer aircraft away from ASA to do the exact same job on the other side of the operation.

MANAGEMENT HAS DONE IT AGAIN. SHORT STAFFED IN ATLANTA AND PAYING TO TRANSFER AIRPLANES. WOULDN'T IT HAVE MADE BETTER SENSE TO FOCUS ON RUNNING YOUR COMPANY THAN RUNNING YOUR MOUTHS? FOOLS.

maybe spending millions in moving cost for closing and opening bases and then spending 24,000 a month for a hotel in SLC where hundreds of your crews live......REAL SMART SKYWEST=sorry skywest pilots aren't getting as much mone in bonus...ooohhh thank your great mgt team

The weather excuse is one of the most over-used lame excuses out there. A lot of times the real problem is ramp short staffing, mx. problems, crew shortage, not enough de-icers, etc. etc. All airlines choose to use the cop out of ohhhh its ATC or ohhhh its weather. Not to say both of those issues don't have some factor in delays. The real fact is that a lot of operational problems are swept under the whiny its the weather excuse. BTW any airport that can't keep at least one runway clear and has to shut down for more than a day due to snow is simply pathetic(i.e DEN) and is just using weather as a crybaby excuse. There have been storms that big other places before. I didn't see those airports shutting down that long. Time to hold all airlines accountable for their real problems. If airports can't operate in some snow or low clouds or some wind then they are simply and utterly pathetic.

Well this isnt a surprise coming from you! Its all the airports fault and not Skywest huh? I think you need to go to the bathroom now and vomit up all that kool-aid you drank today. Did you know the chief pilot was no where to be found that day the airporty closed?

If you read my post closer you would see that I blamed the shortage of crews, shortages of rampers/de-icers, mx problems, etc. as well. SkyWest as well as all airlines hide those problems under the whiny weather excuse. I also pointed out that it was simply pathetic that not one runway could be kept open some of the time. To be closed two days is simply assinine. It shows poor planning and that is not the weathers fault.

Easy for you to say.

With DEN's blizzard situation before Christmas last year, trying to keep one of the runways open was the easy part. They have the technology to do it in a timely manner to keep a runway open on a limited basis. However, it was the two feet of snow at the ramp and the gate areas where the monster machines couldn't get to that had to be shoveled at the rate to overcome the record snowfall. That was the problem. All the airlines kept pressuring the DIA airport authority to open it up ASAP to allow their flights in when their parked airplanes are still popsicles and none of their ramp and gate spaces were completely clear of snow. It's simple, if no flights are getting out, no flights are coming in. Just what you needed on top of everything was 30 airplanes waiting for a gate assignment for 6 hours on taxi. Hell, a lot of employees couldn't make it to work anyways because of the interstate closures to run a half a$$ operation anyways. So, I would say the DEN situation was more than a crybaby excuse.

Newman has the answer for everything. Please, Newman, sit down with a therapist and work out your narcissitic issues.

Not to mention the ass beating we're taking in ORD everyday because they don't have enough controllers duty to run 3 arrival runways.

Only thing to do is have SKYW pilots take another concession or two. Must stay competetive. Sky falling sky falling. Maybe they can agree to have the EMB guarantee reduced or lose some pay whenever they divert.
NewWoman would be all over that. He's such a company guy.
