So what exactly happens at these Skywest "Pilot Recruitment Events"? Are we talking an actual interview with a written test and oral tech interview? Any idea where all of the new hires are going?

this website has a search feature. just trying to help.

but if you ask all your questions in the form of an answer, I'll give you a hint:

what is a 20question mechanical aptitude test, a 50 question ATP Q Test followed by a kool aid session?

Love,
Alex T.

Enough of the Kool-Aid stuff here guys. Someone is trying to get some legit info so lets just help them out.

You'll most likely get a technical question test similar to an ATP written followed by a mechanical aptitude test. You really cannot study for the aptitude test so don't worry about it. The tecnical question test is one that can be studied for. If you know the basic ATP info you should do fine.

If I remember right, one of the tech questions asked how many seats a CRJ-700 had. It's kind of tricky to get this one right. If you answer 70 you will fail. The correct answer is 50. If you want a reference to that, go to the SKYW pay scales and sure enough, the pay rate is the same for the CRJ-700 and it is for the CRJ-50. If you happen to miss this question, you will discuss it with the interview board while enjoying a nice cool glass of grape Kool-Aid.

Maybe I am incorrect here, but I think the original poster was asking about the "recruitment" events that are being conducted in several cities around the country. It appears to me that it is much like a group interview format or the opportunity to get your face and resume in front of the right people.

I guess there could be a ATP test, but it looks to me like it is more of an information session, with them asking quick screening questions of potential candidates. However, I would be prepared to take an ATP test, and be ready for a possible screening interview (or a more thorough interview).

Go to www.skywest.com, click on employment, then recruitment events and you will get this verbiage:

Please complete an on-line application before attending the Group Interview. To fill out an application on-line GO TO JOB OPENINGS and click on the group interview that you wish to attend. Bring a printed copy of the on-line application with you in order to participate in the Group Interview.

That is all it says.

Here is why I believe (although I am NOT in the know on this one) they are conducting these information sessions. When a company conducts these, they are like "terminal velocity" screening. On a typical day, an HR person can only call about 6-10 candidates for a screening interview, depending on how long it takes. (most last 30 minutes)

In this scenario, the HR people (if they are the people attending) can get a good read on the person by meeting them in person. With a telephone screen, you cannot tell if the person will be a good fit for your company. However, in a group interview, you can quickly separate the "good from the bad." They do this by:
A) first impression
B) asking typical questions like "tell us about yourself" and "why do you want to work for Skywest?"

Further, it costs time and money to bring people up for an interview in SLC and a SIM session. This way they can see how you act in person before they invite you up to SLC.

Be sure to treat this as you would ANY other interview. They are not going to pay for a hotel ballroom just to "tell you about the company." They are obviously looking for pilots to put into positions. From what I have heard, they are going to be hiring numerous pilots in 2005. Not sure why; this is just what I have heard.

Good luck everyone!

Kathy

Many thanks

Thanks Resume Writer, I was asking specifically about the Recruitment Event as my original title indicated. i have been out of the flying biz for a bit, and wondered how much I would need to prepare for this specific event.

Does anyone who recently interviewed with Skywest know if you went to a recruitment event and took the 50Q, and 20Q test, and also did the interviewe part, and got an interview in SLC, what can you expect at that point.

Thanks
