Just surfing on another site, had heard that Skywest pilots were voting on a TA, and that all 50,70 and 90 seat jets would pay the same rate. Is this true? If so why? If I missed this on a previous thread sorry.
Kind of a long story. Basically, here's the situation:
Currently, SkyWest is operating based on an expired TA that has a single pay-rate for jets from 50-99 seats.
Our recent pay proposal limits that somewhat by changing the wording to only "CL-65" and "EMB-120" rates and offering a 1.2% pay raise across the board.
Additionally, it gives some minor work-rule improvements by offering an extended reserve call-out in a few cities, and a vague schedule enhancement period that has yet to be designed by the crew scheduling computer folks.
When our pilot group was convinced to vote in favor of the original TA, many felt that promises were made, or at least implied that this rate was temporary in order to get 70-seat flying for United. Many people assumed that the single rate would only last for the 18-months of the original TA. Now that over 2-years have passed with no sign that management is interested in giving away their 70-seat rates (lower than everyone but Mesa) and potentially 90-seat rates (lower than everybody!) our pilot group is starting to suspect that the "temporary" in TA, was not so temporary. Many people expected a better offer, especially after Expressjet succesfully negotiated a far-superior contract to ours.
A Test poll on a company message board suggests that the current pay agreement will not pass. Additionally, many are expressing concern that our collective bargaining agent (not a union) has been of very limited value with respect to our recent pay discussions, sometimes referred to as "negotiations".
Oh, as for the "Why?" part, many of us are wondering the same thing...Vote No.
