Now we're wandering totally off the original subject, but my understanding of history (which I freely admit could be wrong, and is certainly oversimplified) is that the unions at the mainlines held up the sign of the cross and said "no RJs will ever come on this property -- let the regionals fly the toy jets."

I think if the unions had welcomed the RJs into the MAINLINE fleet as the new entry-level aircraft (yes, even at a lower rate of pay than the previous entry-level airplane) when they were first conceived, the regional airlines as we now know them would not even exist.

I'd sure rather have started out my airline career working for United, Delta, American, etc., flying an RJ my first few years (but being a MAINLINE pilot) than starting for a regional and possibly flying an RJ my whole life!

Woulda, coulda, shoulda...

I remember when I was number 200 on the list there and then went to UAL. I am sure glad you guy's are enjoying your job while I am watching my career go down the tubes. I think I need to find the truckmaster number! Enjoy, but remember you guys have a job because I and about 8,000 others have lost our careers.
Dude, I'm sorry you lost your job. Having been furloughed myself, I know how bad it sucks. I realize you're just venting here and that's fine too. But let's put things into perspective. Had UAL not pissed money away over the last, ooohh 73 years of it's corporate history, maybe things would be different. Had they taken a lesson from the johnny come lately SWA and actually paid off debts rather than look for opportunities to leverage itself further, you may have a job right now. UAL had quite a head start on most of the rest of the industry. So who's fault is it really???
