Skywest Xjet or NW Airlinks

Wondering which has a better quality of life, pay, and better for commuting. I live in Michigan, and plan to stay here, so I'd be looking to go either to Chicago or Cleveland to keep the commutes short or DTW with Pinnacle or Mesaba. Also what equipment are they currently hiring into? And assuming a neutral to slightly improving industry how long am I looking at reserve and if anyone has a crystal ball upgrade times.

Thanks

Do Skywest and Pinnacle still not pay you during training?

I know skwest doesnt pay for training, but they do pay for hotel (double occupancy). I've heard pinnacle doesnt pay for training or hotel, but it seems like they have really fast upgrade times.

Skywest upgrade is 1-3 years in the emb-120 and 2-4 years in the crj. ORD is a junior base, so if thats what your shootin for, I say skywest

I've heard at XJT, CLE is a senior base. and they probably have the slowest upgrade times compared the 2 mention above.

How many times is this going to be asked?

CLE is strange in that people who are based there either love it or hate it. So it goes very junior for new hires because most want to leave there as soon as they get it. But there are a lot of senior people there so movement there is slow. In short, if you want CLE as a new hire, you'll get it. But you'll sit on reserve the longest and there is little growth there.

Upgrades may also be quicker here. From what I've read here, at Pinnacle you have to have a bunch of time to upgrade, so unless you already have a lot of time, I wouldn't count on upgrading at Pinnacle any time soon. I don't know about Skywest. But at XJT, guys that were hired at the beginning of the year could be upgrading within a year from now. Of course, for those hired now, it would take longer, but that's going to be try for Skywest or Pinnacle.

Between XJT and Skywest, go with the one who gives you a class date first. I was offered an interview with Pinnacle but I turned it down because they wouldn't pay or put you up during training.
