which would you chose if offered? bases dont matter, qol and short reserve and upgrade times do though.

If Xjet gets their new contract---go there. They are growing and can also go to other airlines to feed since they are not owned only by CO anymore. The bases at Xjet are a little worse--but the flying is good. (my friends say)

anyone know if skywest is growing? have they been hiring lately? the pay is real good compared to xjt. i would have to make this decision before xjt gets the contract so I would have to roll the diec that theyd get a good contract. the interviews are both this month.

You will go to a jet at Xjet---maybe not at Skywest. (jets are easier to fly) The west Coast is nicer than the frigid East, but the variety of flying at COEX is better. I hope that helps...?

Well, I have worked for both. Frankly, lifestyles at both companies are very similar. No pay, reserve, commuting,....it all sucks. My advice, take the job that will offer you the best quality of life. If you live out west, go to SKYW. East, come here to XJT. I'm only 23 yrs old, but am married and have a child so I left SKYW and my job as an EMB FO IAH to come back to XJT as an EMB FO CLE. I'm holding out hope for a significant pay raise at XJT with the ongoing negotiations. We'll see.. Having been furloughled, I'm also happy to have the union to back me up at XJT. SKYW and their current SAPA representation has way too many holes.

At any rate, you gotta get hired first. Once you do, commit to the job and wait and see what happens with the other position. If you come here to XJT you'll be below me and there can never be too many folks behind me on the seniority list! Come on over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep in mind that you are looking at an XJT contract that is almost 500 days past amendable and will most likely contain significant raises (even more so for the FOs).

Skywest's "contract" is really moot point without SAPA being recognized by the NMB as the organizational representative of the Skywest pilots.

Whoever said to base the decision on what quality of life you want hit the nail on the head.

Both companies are good and healthy. I work for XJT but would have had not problem going to SKW if I had ever applied there.

very good info, but the million dollar question is who will have the longer reserve stint? and who has the lower upgrade times in the jet?

I believe the latest upgrade class for the RJ went to about 3.5 years seniority. On the Brasilia I think it's around 2 to 2.5 years. Reserve for new EMB FOs in IAH, the most junior base, is nonexistent right now. They are real short on FOs but that will probably change soon. Things are always changing. When I got hired 3.5 years ago the upgrade on the EMB was at 12 months but when it came my turn the earliest I could upgrade at was at 2.5 years. The RJ went as low as 2 years awhile back but it's higher now and always fluctuates. We are getting lots of aircraft deliveries which is always good for moving up in seniority. Good luck.
