Just got a call from Cassidy today for a Brasilia class on the 13th. I was wondering what base a new hire is most likely to get and how long it would take to get Denver.

I thought SkyWest newhire classes started on a thursday? The 13th of march is a monday.;) But the 13 of April is a thursday!! So what is it?

You'll more than likely get somewhere in cali.....FAT, PSP or LAX are the most likely places......As for DEN, get in line....A guy in my class just got awarded DEN after 7 months....A lot of people want to go there, but it's not a big brasilia base......who knows though...things change..

Any confirmation?

Not to be too suspicious, but a guy with only one post and only 152s and 182s in his profile got a call from Cassidy? All of my communication from SKYW came via email (I'm in the pool). Has anyone else been contacted? Can any one on the inside confirm this?

Beer30?

Congrats hopeful! I got the call from Cassidy today as well. I was originally going to be in jet class, but was offered the BRO class instead. Cassidy said that there would not be a jet class for "quite a while" and that they are offering the first 20 in the pool the BRO class. See ya on the 13th!

hey man...i have a private, 20 hours and I fly a pimp rocket......I guess they let *anyone* have information....go figure.... :pimp:

edit:...oh ya, I'm sure that since you guys have been swimming so long, they'd rather call you in person and let you know whats up.......I'd be kinda miffed if I was holding out for a company for 5 or 6 months and then get an e-mail telling me I start in a week.....a call from a real live actual person is the only classy and respectful way to go in this situation...imho.

73,
So Cassidy didn't mention an exact date for the CRJ class? Oh well, I'll wait some more. If you're a roomy of Matty and J-Lo in H-town, holla at me.

30,

Just hang in there, buddy. They'll be goin' 0-60 in no time.

i declined, am waiting for the jet!

A decision you will most likely regret greatly...

ALWAYS take the seniority number, over the course of the next 3-5 years declining a date may cost you tens of thousands of dollars in delayed upgrade, not to mention QOL issues related to your ability to bid what you want.

Oh well, at least one guy ahead of you (now) owes you a lot of beer...

OMG, I hope you are joking. If not, you are the biggest fool on the face of this earth.

A little OT, but: Say one was prevented from taking a date or even an interview for 15 months from, say, a pending criminal charge that was then dropped, how might such a delay affect a pilot now just getting back into the game? preferrably a quantifiable answer, as in $$, due to the pleasure they bring lawyers.

Thanks in advance.

Just in case you're not trolling. Very stupid. These guys get hired start flying a line rather quickly, and build seniority. You wait for the Little Shiney Jet, finally get called 8 months or so down the road. Just as you finish training , these guys come off seat lock and make the transition, and take all the flying while you sit reserve for a year.

All the while you get your 19.02 an hour- never break guaranty {sic} and feel that it's just not fair.

Well if I would have been hired 15 months prior to my hire date I could have made about 30K more for 2005 than I ended up making. I probably could have upgraded more quickly etc.. There are guys junior to me who made 30K more than I did last year too, just depends on seat locks. It completely depends on your timing.

Great to hear posts like this one, makes me feel good about my choice. I interviewed in Sep, was told I would get the jet, but took the prop class. My family thinks I'm crazy but they don't understand seniority.

I think waiting for the jet is a great move. That way you can eventually get ord and then upgrade at your liesure. If you are really lucky, you can be a fo for the guy that took your spot and you can tell him/ her how much you love flying the jet.

Can you upgrade from the jet to CA in the bro? i.e. are upgrades by senority only or do you have to have flown the a/c before upgrading in it? btw, I'm holding out for the space shuttle...

First year pay is the same regardless of which aircraft you start in. Hold out for the jet, give up seniority, why again?

I upgraded from the RJ to the Bro. As long as your seniority can hold it, it yours.

I can't believe someone passed up a class. Man, what were you thinking? It's all the same pay 1st year and you get a seniority number and some quality of life. Pick up that phone now and call Cassidy back and tell her you re-thought your obvious mistake and would like to start at the first possible opportunity.

I am curious, what were you thinking? What advantage did you think there was to holding out for the jet? I hope it's because you live in Chicago. Other than that there is no reason.

Good luck.

you can upgrade from jet fo to bro CA, but thanks to your decision it will be a lot longer. enjoy sitting reserve longer. reserve sux.

man you guys and gals are so quick to judge me for waiting....come on...while you guys are insulting me, my wife is praising me! its a good thing im in the business of making my wife happy....and not you guys!

i would bet that most of you (at least the smart ones) would probably make the same decision i made if you were standing in my same position!

There are about 100 emb fo's waiting for transition class to the RJ. ALL of them will go ahead of you if you only will take the rj. The smart ones are already here...

Mookie

I'm sure Genral Lee has something interesting regarding this..

No offense to your wife, but how much airline experience does she have? Odds are good she's praising you because you told her what a good decision it was. Maybe you showed her some pictures of the beat up old brasilia compared to the pretty new CRJ? Did you explain to her that friends and neighbors will respect you more for being a jet pilot? Maybe she (and you) have a good reason to support your decision. Care to let us in on your reasoning?

I'm not going to rub salt in the wound any further, but hopefully you learn from this experience. It's pretty much a universal truth that you don't pass up a class date (especially for an as yet undetermined and possible long-delayed class). We don't know what you're doing currently career-wise, but to see what your decision cost you, try keeping track of a few people from the class you would have been in. Then you can watch and see what could have happened regarding your seniority, domicile choices, reserve, etc. In my experience, there is no legitimate reason to choose the jet over the prop. I've flown them both here, and there's really not as big a difference as people would have you believe (except that the EMB is more fun to fly). When the pay makes any difference, you can bid the jet transfer (many Bro FO's doing this at the 1-year mark is probably why there won't be any CRJ newhires for a while). In fact, most first year CRJ pilots probably earn less than their EMB counter-parts with poorer quality of life. There is a great deal of movement on the EMB FO side, due to upgrades and transitions, while the Jet FO's tend to move in only one direction (to the left seat). As a Brasilia FO, I was on reserve for about 3 months. CRJ FO's hired in the class immediately before mine sat reserve for over a year in SLC, for example.

Give us a hint and maybe we won't be so hard on you. What is your position?
p.s. If you are a BYU fan, no further explanation is needed as you must be mentally deficient. ;)

My guess is that neither you or your wife understand it wasn't the brightest move to pass up the class assuming you really want to to work for SkyWest. Seniority is everything in this business. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices in the beginning. I have no idea how SkyWest intends to staff their jets but if they have a large pool of FO's waiting to transition it could be a year or more before a jet class is offered. Who knows? Besides flying the Brasilia has advantages over flying the RJ. If many EMB FO's are taking the RJ transition then you move up the list quickly and may not have to sit reserve at all. If you hire on as an RJ FO and there is a steady stream of EMB FO's taking the transition then you could be on reserve your entire probationary period or longer depending on your domicile. Yikes. That's called leaving money on the table. Plus if you're on reserve and not flying that means you're not building hours that might be required for upgrade. So you could end up having someone junior to you upgrade in front of you because you don't meet the TT or 121 time requirements for the left seat.

Hey Cougarblue,
I have to say your decision baffles me. Now I'm not tring to criticize you, but I would like to know what's going through your head.

No rational person would be in this career for the money. And you'd make more $$ in the Bro your first year anyway. So that leaves love of flying/airplanes, or possibly you like calling yourself an airline pilot. Whatever it is....please explain because you're a mystery.

For what it's worth I don't know why any aviation enthusiast would turn down the E-120 for an RJ. The Brasilia is more of an airplane with computers, while the RJ is just a computer with wings. But hey maybe you're more of a computer wiz.
