Some info needed about the LAX reserve base:

Does it still exist?

How many crews?

How junior? How long would it take to hold it as a newhire?

Average amount of flying each month?

Generally what type of trips? Day stuff to cover holes in scheduling -- or 2-4 day trips to cover entire pairings?

1.5 hour call out?

Any answers to the above and / or additional info would be greatly appreciated.

5- EMB 120 FO's very Jr...
2- CRJ FO's need about a year ish to hold that.
Hope that helps.

Why not just accept PSP or SAN or SBA?

The base is still there, currently 3 to 5 pilots for each seat in each airplane (it's been that way for a while too). LAX EMB FO is pretty junior, if you don't get it out of training, you'll be able to get it in a couple months...the jet takes some time.....the captains slots take some time to get into for both airplanes...

The flying amount varies based on need.......In the 7 months I was reserve in LA, 5 months were spent doing almost nothing. I averaged about 20 hours of block time a month over the 7 months. They called me about 3 or 4 days a month, usually 2 legs...sometimes 2 day trips. There was only 2 or 3 times where they called me for an entire 3 or 4 day trip. Most assignments are put on your schedule a few days before...there is a 1 1/2 hour callout though......it is feast or famine, though...they can not call you, or bend you over their knees and spank your ass.......

You can fly on your days off out of PSP or CRQ/SAN and it pays above guarantee......not a bad deal if they don't call you....

as far as PSP, SAN or SBA, all of them are options out of training. PSP is very likely, where as SAN and SBA may take a while (a few months), but they have been awarded out of training in the past. It's all about whether they need you or not.
