I haven't seen any recent info on hiring for Skywest. Last I heard they were only hiring for the CRJ. If that is the case how many are they hiring in the next year? I also heard that competitive mins for the CRJ are 2500 tt and some jet time. I am currently flying 135 cargo and have a little over 2000tt and 1400 multi, no jet. With some good recommendations from inside, has anyone been hired into the jet with my times?

Thanks in advance for any info you can give. And yes I've used the search function.

I talked with a few guys on the interview panel a few days ago. they told me they hire you into whatever plane they best see you fitting in. they said they have hired applicants into the jet with no turbine time. yes, they do prefer turbine time, but no turbine time isn't an automatic disqualifier for the jet. they are still hiring into the brasilia as well, but need people to fill RJ classes. I know a guy who was hired a few weeks ago with no turbine time right into the jet. hope this help a little bit. more out there with more insight than me, i am just an intern wishing i had my time right now.

So I take it the guys who are on the EMB-120 like it? I've had for than one CFI tell me they would prefer the EM2 over a CR2 when starting out.

Thanks for the info so far. I most likely have an interview coming up and want to be as prepared as possible. On aviationinterviews.com everyone talks of using the arco asvab or the air inc. mechanical test book. Is the air inc book the one called "officer canidate tests"? Here is the link. https://jetjobs.securesites.com/AirlineTesting.html
Would anyone who has interviewed care to tell me which one they used and how it prepared them?
Any other info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Magneto- The Arco ASVAB is fine. I spent an hour in the local Barnes and Noble with it about a week before my interview and aced the test with ease. Pulleys, pressure, mechanical advantage, stuff like that. Don't bother buying one, just grab some coffee and find a comfy chair in your local bookstore.

You'll go where you're needed

Simple fact is, if they hire you, they'll put you wherever they need you. Sometimes people with 121 PIC experience (like me and several of my friends) start in the Brasilia, and sometimes flight instructors start in the RJ. If they have the luxury of choice, maybe they put you where they think your experience fits, but it seems that most of the time, they just have a slot to fill. When I started, the UAL jets-4-jobs people were taking all the jet slots, and were even spilling over into the Brasilia. I was disappointed at the time, but...

It all pays the same the first year AND you will very likely sit a LOT LESS reserve on the Brasilia than on the jet the first year. I'm glad I started in the Brasilia. I sat reserve for 2.5 months in SLC. Had I started on the jet in SLC, I would have sat reserve for probably about 7 months judging from the seniority list. If you live in domicile, reserve isn't nearly so bad. If you're a commuter, it SUCKS!!

Actually, the only real bummer I can think of about starting on the Brasilia is missing out on about two months' worth (> $1000) of jet vs. Bro pay differential going into the second year if you transition when the year seatlock is over.

Well, I got the good news today. I interview on December 6th. I can't wait. Wish me luck and I'll post how things go after I'm done.

Whats up with this no pay till IOE crap. Who can afford to go that long without a paycheck? Especially if you are at the bottom of your class. Any plans on getting rid of that? I would love to go to Skywest but can't go that long on my just me wife's paycheck.

I did it 11 years ago. It's not fun, but there are other places to work. You just have to look at the overall picture and decide if it works for you. There may be better options for you out there.

SkyWestMan is right. No pay until the checkride and at the time we did not get our hotel paid for either. If you are at the bottom of the seniority list for the class, you better pair up with somebody senior or your first check will be 7-8 weeks away. It took me 6 months to get caught up.

It blows but that's the deal. Pretty sad if ya ask me but at the time that was the way it was.

I think that they are still picking up the tap for lodging if you are willing to shack up with a classmate. I think we had 5 guys in some crappy place close to the training center.

"Airline Test Kit"
Actually I scrolled down on my own link and saw the book labeled "Mechanical Aptitude and Spatial Relations Guide". That sounds more like the one. Has anyone used this one to prepare for the Skywest mechanical aptitude test? According to the title of the book I probably answered my own question. Thanks for the info.
