What about them? I rather those 175s be operated by Alaska Airline pilots under the terms of their collective bargaining agreement. Those are better compensated jobs at a better company.

Well I have been looking for HOURS and have not been able to find those ever elusive Alaska E175 rates to determine exactly how inferior the SKYW pilots are being compensated. Fortunately, AMR has an E190 rate to compare it to:

E190 99 seats -> 12yr : 123/hr (airlinepilotcentral.com & seatguru.com)
E175 76 seats -> 20yr : 114/hr (airlinepilotcentral.com)

Max pay difference: 9/hr
Pay per seat: 1.5 $/seat/hr (SKYW) vs 1.24 $/seat/hr (AMR)
Pay per seat (SKYW normalized to 12yrs "AMR top rate") 1.22 $/seat
Normalized difference: 2 CENTS/seat/hr

I hope you plan on lecturing the AMR guys about how "appropriate" their ERJ pay rates are as well.

See the previous post on how absurd it is to suggest they are "better compensated". And company quality is a rather subjective descriptor. I would be willing to bet a majority of the pilots at SKYW would say it isn't that bad of a company to work for.

The AMR E190s are really USAir E190s, and their lower rates are because of their squabble between the East and West pilots. According to APC, the max for them are $123 an hour for the Capt (12th year), and $83 an hour for a 12th year FO. Not great.

Other E190 operators include JetBlue and Republic (who use theirs for Casino charters). JetBlue E190s max out in the 12th year at $170 an hour for the Capt, and $115 an hour for a 12th year FO (probably not gonna happen). Republic has a terrible pay rate for theirs ($119 an hour on a 19 year scale, and $37 an hour max for any FO)


Looks like JB has the best E190 rates, and those are just slightly larger than E175s. AA will probably be getting a raise soon, so their current rates are temporary. By contrast, DL's smallest mainline plane is the famous 717, with 88 coming as of now (50 delivered so far), and as of Jan 1st of 2015, the 12th year Capt rate will be $195 an hour.

It's not all about pay rates. I don't know why you and other pilots always look at just pay rates. Your airline isn't even at the top of the compensation ladder among regionals and you think it stacks up to Alaska Airlines?

See my post above on how it's absurd to simply compare pay rates. As for quality of companies, yes it's subjective. I never said Skywest pilots would say it's a bad place to work. But I would be willing to bet that the majority of them would rather work for Alaska than Skywest.
