Just wondering if EMB captains can bid CRJ captain at Skywest.....or do the brasilia captains have to spend some FO time in the RJ before becoming captain there.....thanks

I'm sure they can bid strait to RJ captain if they can hold it. You can go from right seat of the EMB to left seat of the RJ if you want, but I'll let the SKW guys elaborate.

You can bid whatever your seniority will allow you to hold.

Traditionally, most of the moves went EMB FO > EMB CPT > CRJ CPT, although in the past few years there has been so much growth on the RJ side many people either get hired into the RJ as an F.O,. or transition to it (after a year), then go straight to RJ PIC. These guys who upgrade into the jet after having flown it for a year or two have a much easier time.

You can tell the guys who have flown the plane before as an F.O.: you'll see them often at Lofty's.

The other guys spend their free time hidden away at the hangar going over flows, the CBT, and generally curled up rocking back and forth in a corner, arms wrapped around themselves, reciting limitations and call outs.

Last bid award had a couple of EMB F.O.s making the bold move direct to RJ Captain: Not for the weak of heart...

Interesting note: Last bid award's most junior RJ Captain award was over a hundred pilot numbers more junior than the most junior EMB captain (!). Many guys in this company just do not want to leave the west coast for DEN or ORD...

I heard of a Skywest pilot upgrading his backpack to his left shoulder after only six months on his right shoulder... imagine.

There is a one year seat lock most of the time. If you're upgrading on the same equipment that doesn't apply as long as your seniority can hold it. My progression was EMB FO, RJ FO, EMB CA, RJ CA.

And I heard of a XJT pilot trading in his standard plain black rollaboard to a nice forest green color. Looking very GQ in his wrinkled pilot shirt with his iron-on wings that were almost faded/bleached white.

Get over it

That's not unheard of, but only if it's an ERAU backpack.

And hey, those wings aren't ironed on. They...they're needle-pointed in there...or macrame...or something. Besides I think they look almost just like the real thing!

I'm not a big fan of the wings on some shirts, I opted not getting them when I orderd my new shirts......I personally don't think they look good, just my opinion.

Sounds like those snazzy "badges" the TSA wear on their shirts.
