Hello all,

The timing of the union vote is unfortunate. It would be ideal to be able to put off the vote until after Dec 2004, when we should get a new and better TA. But, we can't wait to take a vote. We must have a union vote within one year of petitioning the NMB and that year runs out in Feb 2004.

The main problem I have with voting in UPA right now is that our current TA becomes a contract. It will take years to negotiate a new contract; while we get more and more RJ70s that we get to fly for the RJ50 rate.

did I miss something? Have we petitioned the NMB? I didn't think we'd done that.

The informational UPA Union card sent in by pilots are only good for one year. The one I sent in in March 2003 can not be used to petition the NMB after March of 2004.

As of now, UPA has not petitioned for recognition by the NMB.

From what I was told today... that any expired card(s) can be tossed and new card(s) can be reissued to that original signing pilot(s). So if a card was signed last December, it can be tossed and another card signed by that same pilot so no big loss.
When UPA has the percentage of cards that they feel will give them a win.....they will petition the NMB.

Hello all,

I was misinformed. Skywest has not petitioned the NMB. The cards are good for one year. Here's some quotes from the NMB to settle any doubt.

Q: What is a showing of interest?
A: A showing of interest is the percentage of the craft or class that has signed authorization cards. An application must be supported by an adequate showing of interest, in the form of employee authorization cards. Authorizations will be considered invalid if dated more than one year prior to the date on the NMB application. If the craft or class is already represented under the RLA and is covered by a valid existing collective bargaining agreement, the application must be supported from a majority (50% plus one) of valid authorization cards by employees in the craft or class. If the craft or class is unrepresented, the application must be supported by at least 35% of valid authorization cards by employees in the craft or class.
Authorization cards must be submitted with the application. The authorization cards must be signed by the employees in the craft or class which is listed on the application. If the employees are unrepresented, authorization cards from at least 35% of the craft or class must be submitted with the application. If the employees are represented and there is a valid existing collective bargaining agreement covering the employees, authorization cards from a majority of the craft or class must be submitted with the application.
