What is the average reserve time for recently hired SkyWest CRJ pilots? (Classes that ran last fall.) Am I correct to assume while on reserve you must live near domicile? I know of the 1 1/2 and 2 hour call out times depending on the airport.

SkyWest is currently holding upgrade classes for both aircraft. EMB new-hire classes should begin by March. Will be longer for CRJ as there are 180 "too-many".

To give you a real example. I was hired late July, 2005, and still sitting reserve in Denver. I can hold a line in Chicago, but I live in Denver. It's rather nice though. I "Work" (actually fly) about 10-13 days a month and am crediting 90-100hrs a month. I rarely get called and have been scheduled minimally on my days on, and then I pick up trips on my days off for credit above 75hrs. I work less than line holders and make the same if not more. Just have to work the system.

You don't HAVE to live in domicile, but it will feel like you do. Since you have to be within 1.5 hrs for 12hrs a day.

USC328,

How is that even close to true? If you're still on first year pay, you'd have to fly an illegal amount in order to catch up to what more senior line holding pilots are making wouldn't you? Or does Skywest have some dirty little secret?

I think he's talking about just hours, not actual money.....I've been doing the same thing....I worked 5 days total in january, 2 of them were on my days off, and I got paid 92 hours..........now, the actual dollar figure sucks, but I still got paid quite a bit considering the amount of work I did.......

Indianboy is correct. That is what I was referring to. There are still first year FOs that are holding a line. So in that sceanario, I am making the same amount and hours as they are and working less. Hope that clears up the SkyWest dirty little secret.

My personal feeling on this (I hope I'm not too far wrong) is that this status of "too many" can't last much longer. A big part of the reason we have too many right now is because of schedule cutbacks at both United and Delta. It is the dead time of year, and things should be picking up again soon as we move into spring and summer. Once Delta and United decide to reverse their cutbacks, "too many" will instantaneously revert to "too few." Point is, it changed overnight, and it can change back again overnight.

Attrition has been rather healthy again in the last couple months, also. We lost 50 pilots in the last quarter of 2005. I haven't seen figures for January yet, but I'm guessing we lost about 15 or so.

I also suspect the 5 Delta CRJ-700's that have been "officially" announced won't be the last.
