Heard from St. George today that the interview team is really starting to ramp up for hiring. Plus there are multiple classes lined up after the March 13th class with interviews continuing through april. Trust me, the source is a good one too! Good news for the poolies. Most class are going to the Brasilia with an RJ class mixed in possibly.

Great news!

Along those lines... I know the mins are listed as 1000tt as they always have been on the website, but when accessing the "careers" link through SkyWestOnline, it says below the mins, "Recency of experience will be considered." Does this phrase mean that the mins can fluctuate due to quality of time?

So is there any word on when the next classes would be, rough dates, etc? Some friends and I are planning a GA trip to FL for Sun n Fun during the first week in April. I'm wondering if classes will start before then or not? I'll head to class if it's available, but...

Thanks for any help that can be offered.

Short answer: No.

I've not heard of anyone ever being hired with less than 1,000 hours, even back in the go-go days of the late 90's. With the HUGE pool qualified and experienced pilots out there now, I certainly doubt there would be any bend of the rules now...

one thing I really respect about skywest is that they are strict on their mins. While other airlines drop their hiring minimums (i.e. expressjet, ASA, adn etc..) skywest up'd their "prodcut. THey started paying during training. yeah, i know they should have done it sooner. but I am just trying to make a point about their mins

I had a friend walk a resume in this week. I hope it pays off! Good to hear they are finally ramping up again to bring in new blood.

Guy in my new hire class (Nov 02) had 917TT. He had passed CRJ sim ride at Cont. Exp. prior to 9/11 however.

I didn't know that Cont. Exp. had a CRJ sim....????

SkyWest, from the rumors I've heard, has occassionally at times let appilicants use sim time on top of flight time to get the minimum 1000 hours.

is this 500 based on growth, attrition, expanded routes, please do tell
giggidee

I'm sure it's all of the above.........new planes for Delta, more routes for those planes....and I've moved up 15 numbers a month for 2 months...

I'm in the same boat at Detriotpilot-already have CRJ experience, if someone has the heart and did the interview already having experience, please pm me and let me know.

while we are on the topic of skywest, could someone tell me what the min days off are for a line holder, and does the pref bidding system work out pretty good?

Its a system where instead of the company producing lines and you bid on them from straight seniority, you can put values on certain things you want, such as a commutable schedule, specific days off, weekends off. You put in your bid, and then your seniority will determine what you get. We are currently doing a 6 month testing of it at pinnacle, but not all of our pilots are doing the testing run, so it is completely inacurate.

I heard the min. days off for a lineholder is 12 days. Hopefully someone can confirm this. As far as the pref bidding goes, I was talking to a skywest guy and it sounded like they are having their share of problems with pref bid being implemented. I told him we are in the process of gettng and His words to me were "you guys probably have some company setting it up, we have some guys friend doing it".

If SkyWest is hiring that many, it has to be due to some form of growth, either new base, more flying. People don't just leave that place like they do others

I heard something about Skywest picking up flying for AWA and USAirways.....any truth?

I would love to see them pick up flying for NWA, becuase everyone at pinnacle and mesaba would quit and apply to skywest.

Min days off for a lineholder is 12. It's 10 for reserve. I've been doing PBS since Oct and it's been hit or miss as far as getting what i want. The manual they gave us doesn't explain how everything works and it seems like we're finding out new stuff every month by trial and error.

Skywest, NWA and Continental Express

I read in the Salt Lake Tribune that CEO Jerry A. is secretively talking to NWA and Continetal for to fly some of their regional routes. This is probably why they will be hiring like crazy.

I don't think it's a secret, just that JA won't say who he is 'courting.' The Tribune article of last Sunday didn't really contain anything new to anyone at SKYW. some highlights:

http://www.sltrib.com/search/ci_3569863

SkyWest recently submitted bids for two more carrier contracts, which boils down to growth without the headaches inherent in an acquisition.
Atkin refuses to identify the companies. But he says they are among the top five or six major airlines, and they are not Delta or United. They would be "significant business," involving "an appreciable number of airplanes."
"Whether it would be buying a company, or whether it would be adding 60 to 70 airplanes, the effort and money and stuff that goes into it is not different, and it's a lot cleaner to do without an acquisition," he said.
Observers say Northwest Airlines and Continental Airlines are the most likely companies. "I would bet, dollars down, that Northwest is one of them. Continental is the other," said Ray Neidl, an airline analyst for Calyon Securities in New York.
Starting March 31, Northwest passengers flying from Asia into Los Angeles and San Francisco will no longer be provided connections to Las Vegas and Phoenix by America West. Last year, Northwest ordered regional carrier Pinnacle Airlines to ground jets it leases from Northwest. And Northwest told another regional carrier, Mesaba, that it will take back 35 of its jets and return them to leasing companies.
In December, Continental told ExpressJet it was pulling back 69 regional jets after failing to win a cheaper contract from the carrier. Continental also said the airline would seek bids from other regional carriers to operate the aircraft at a lower cost. It already has a relationship with SkyWest, which flies a few routes for the Houston-based carrier.
"SkyWest is a leasing company, and there are too many of those leasing companies out there. There will be a shakeout, and SkyWest is in the pole position to survive," said Michael Boyd, president of the Boyd Group, an Evergreen, Colo.-based consulting company that tracks the airline industry.

PBS is no good!!!!!! It doesn't help that the pairings are getting worse, but have been getting 4 to 5 less days off every bid period along with 10 to 15 hours less credit....

Pbs

PBS basically acts a seniority magnifier. If you are junior, PBS will pretty much give you whatever's leftover. If you are senior, you can pretty much choose your pairings and build your schedule as you like (within the set parameters of the software.)I've only used it once and at one of the smaller domiciles, but it worked out pretty well for me considering I was one of the most junior line-holders.

Good luck to those applying.
