I've been reading about Skywest announcing a training freeze. Where exactly are people getting these "announcements" from. Company website? Is there any public place to look for this info. I've been hired. Waiting on a class date and wondering when if might be. Any ideas?

Thanks

You will keep waiting. At least three month hiring freeze from what I have heard.

Yeah it's not written anyplace public or on the company site...however it is true. I've talked to people in the training dept who are ready to pack up the bags and start flying the line for a few months

Try Airline pilots central under regional forums, there is someone from the training dept there posting no classes until at least June 30th and possibly not until Sept. If I were you I'd try Republic. Good luck either way!

I know a guy, who knows a guy, who knows a guy that got hired at Sky and was told by their hiring Dept his class is CNX'd for few months.

If you were hired you should be able to contact their hiring dept directly and get this info. No?

I've seen the letter that was sent out to the new hires. What's funny is the letter says there's a freeze because the attrition rate is much lower then anticipated. Also the new hires are offered a chance to interview at "our sister" airline ASA if they would like a possible job quicker or they can be put in the pool but they must call to do that. Applicants are also told in the letter that they maybe called to class with as little as 2 weeks notice, so be prepared.

I got a letter and CRJ study packet on 2/13. The letter I have says "Your ground school class date will be determined and announced to you." It included no information on a hiring/training freeze. I emailed them and was told they have no dates planned yet but I would be in the next class. They also said it would be a CRJ class.

Airline Pilot Central is not exactly "official" information. Where is this info coming from that there wont be any class until June or September?

Attrition will continue. I heard from a former ACP that there are 30+ check airmen in the SWA pool. I know of others waiting for class dates at DAL, UAL, NWA, ANA, and Cathay Pacific.

There is a short pause in classes starting next month. It will only last until june. This could change at a moment, and they could be going full swing again. Delta just came out with there summer plan and it's not as busy as it was last year. So we are going in to the spring with a few extra pilots.

So are you saying there will be new hire classes in March? Or has the last new hire class before the "pause" already started?

One of the interviewers(ORD CA)yesterday showed a slide of the Taj Mahal's reflecting pool and said it was their hiring pool, and that it was empty. "SkyWest has no hiring pool", he said. He then told the 2/15/08 interviewees that the next new hire class would be early March.

Based on the known cancelling/consolidating of new hire classes and guys (maverick24) who already have packets being told they have no date yet, I think the interviewers are being very vague as to the class dates for the guys they are still interviewing.

March 10th is the last one.

I was offered the March 10th CRJ class the day I interviewed, then got the CRJ study packet a week later with the letter indicating that I would be notified later of a class date. I called and talked to someone in HR(last week) and they said that the March 10th is no more, and that "we" would be notified by March 1st with more information.

I hope my info is wrong. amcnd, what's your source that March 10th is still going?

Classes are cancelled until further notice. I posted it a few days ago, and it is true. Sorry to those of you waiting, but you may be waiting for quite a while.

Yep, months of stagnation to come. Maybe more.

Isn't that what everyone said would happen if you voted in ALPA? But it happened anyhow. So it looks like you had nothing to lose in that respect.

Anyhow, we'll all be sure to play you all a sad, sad song on the world's smallest violin for your precious upgrades going away what with "months" of stagnation. :crying:

(ps, ASA was stagnant for 5 FRICKING YEARS... cry us a river).
