I am hearing that Skywest has bought ASA and it is pretty much a done deal.

I certainly hope not because Skywest just bought themselves a hornets nest!
 
actually Branson is in Phoenix right now finalizing a deal to buy the freedom airlines certificate. He is learning whipsaw 101 from the master himself. There will be a press release later today. JO is forming a friendship airlines certificate for his delta flying in honor of the master himself. Lorenzo will have a role in it and there will be a contest to see who can whipsaw the best.

Though the big difference between the two: Lorenzo permanently ruined thousands of lives and families, and Rose just ruined his reputation. But Rose will get back in MLB and in the hall of fame once he cuts a deal with Selig. i.e. community service picking up garbage after baseball games.

Establishing a low-cost carrier that would potentially fly narrowbody aircraft is one growth strategy being considered by US regional SkyWest Airlines.

Establishing a low-cost carrier that would potentially fly narrowbody aircraft is one growth strategy being considered by US regional SkyWest Airlines.

The St George, Utah-based carrier, which currently flies regional aircraft on behalf of Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, has “an interest and objective in acquiring or starting some kind of a larger aircraft operation at some point”, said SkyWest president and CEO Jerry Atkin today at Merrill Lynch’s 2005 Global Transportation Conference in New York.

He admits that launching a new carrier “may sound a little crazy in this environment”, but that “now is a very good time to prepare for it”.

SkyWest will look “at all airplane types up to about 170 seats”, reveals the regional airline chief, adding that the startup operation would be “in the low-cost” sector.

In the shorter-term, SkyWest hopes to increase its feeder deals with Delta and United, and continues to have ongoing dialogue with other US majors.

Continental Airlines recently decided to phase out SkyWest’s Embraer Brasilia EMB-120 services from Houston. Atkin says the regional has the objective of again doing business with the US major in the future.

He says SkyWest is also “looking at and are talking with low-cost carriers” to see if feeder deals can be arranged.

This is nothing new. It's been said for the millionth time for years and years.

The feeder for low cost carriers thing has also been mentioned for quite a long time now. Jetblue and southwest declined the offer.

A low cost carrier? Wow. They should start it on the East Coast with a bunch of RJs first, and then slowly add A319s. They could have all leather seats, and have funky paint jobs on the planes. They could have a comedian, like Dennis Miller, do the tape recorded safety demo, and they could start off with a lot of cash and then get hammered by every competitor. That would be awesome. It sure would seem like a new idea out there. Go for it. Mesa will follow with 737s in PIT...?

What I can't figure is why your MEC said ACA was a scope violator while MESA can fly CRJ900 and still be a member of the Delta Connection Protfolio of whipsaw career busters. Has your MEC stopped caring about 90 seats?

Of course, if Skywest is coming out, I doubt Delta would be happy about it. It could be that Delta is using MESA to intimidate Skywest and try to force them to buy code, like MESA and Chautauqua did at US Air - at the same time Skywest is letting Delta know that if they push too hard there are other options.

As a Mormon airline, Skywest could always market their services to the 98% of people offended by Delta's sponsorship of "Secrets of a Gay Porn Star" and Youth Pride.

LOA 46 allows DAL to contract with carriers that fly aircraft with up to 97 seats, so long as those aircraft are not used to fly DL code passengers. DCI is limited to a maximum configuration of 70 seats.
