SkyWest, Inc. Announces Plans to Acquire 22 Additional Regional Jet Aircraft 10/12/2007
SkyWest, Inc. and United Airlines announced today that SkyWest plans to acquire 22 additional regional jet aircraft, 18 of which will fly for United Express, as part of an aircraft transition plan, allowing them to retire 23 EMB-120 30 seat turboprop aircraft and make room for 66 seat regional jet aircraft for United Express flying.

Yep...23 airframes come out and 22 go in.
 
5 of the 23 brasilias are going to be reassigned to do skywest.inc flying. most important part of the whole deal you have to read in between the lines for. United gave up their exclusivity agreement for LAX. this will be big
 
I highly doubt there will be any growth for any regional in the foreseeable future, pending a collapse of an existing airline. Even then, I bet the amount of replacement will be less than the size of the failed airline.

The trend in the next years will be exactly what is happening, a replacement of 50-seat and smaller aircraft with 70- or 76-seat jets. The problem is, at least for Delta (and this is a good problem for those that want to move on), the 76-seat allocations are almost maxed out.

And don't forget boys and girls that you are ALSO trading 4 CRJ-50s for 4 76 seat CR9s too on the Delta side. Not a lot of growth there on the Delta side. Maybe rumors of extra MD90s from China will become true? You never know. And, we are hiring BTW.(the last newhire class had 4 SLC 757/767 postions too)

I bet Skywest will close the small California pilot bases now...they just won't announce it until the union vote is over.

This is what the President and COO of Skywest said in part today in an email.

This deal provides significant opportunity for our employees, allows us to revitalize our fleet, and enables us to operate for additional carriers at LAX.

One of the most important aspects of the agreement is the release of United exclusivity at LAX, which opens the door of opportunity for SkyWest on the West Coast. The release of exclusivity in Los Angeles is key to continued growth in the west.


We're now looking at enormous opportunity with our current and even potential partners because of the quality and credibility of our airline.

Personally, I don't think Skywest wants Embraer jets. I think this is just a negotiating ploy with Bombardier.
