Just wondering why some pilots at SkyWest thought the 50-99 seat pay at 50 seat rates was a temporary thing? As far as I can tell, no one in SAPA or mgmt ever said as much. If they did, I don't believe it was reduced to writing.

The only thing I can figure is the "deal an ace" statement being liberally interpreted. Someone please enlighten me, why did you believe this arrangement was temporary?

I'm not a SKYW pilot, but without a union can't the company just impose pretty much whatever they want.....kind of like JBLU.

I wasn't on property at the time, but people probably thought this because it was an 18 month TA. Sounds temporary to me.

Palerider957,

Yes they can impose anything they want. But they usually try and keep atleast 50% +1 of the pilots relatively happy so a union isn't voted in. And for that matter a union carrier can impose whatever it wants. The only difference is the ability to file a formal grievance (albeit a big difference).

Bluto,

I considered that theory, but the SkyWest TA's are never very long. One or two years max, I believe.

Interesting.....United, USAirways and all the other legacy carriers have unions, yet.......the co. pretty much imposed whatever they wanted as well. (yeah yeah yeah, after the "if you don't vote yes, we may possibly liquidate" shpiel)
