Thanks!

Glad to hear you got the interview, but isn't it a good idea to do the research and THEN apply to the company?

Seems to me you have the cart before the horse here.

If you have useful info for the man, give it to him. If not.......then p%ss off!

I have some useful information for him, and for you too.

Do your homework before you go as far as taking up an interview appointment that could go to someone who knows the company, the equipment, the domiciles, and a dozen other particulars.

Or does the idea of this kind of responsibility offend thee?

Seems like he did the right thing to me.

Glad to hear that you got an interview, thats better than most.

Don't misunderstand.

I like the idea that a pilot got an interview. That's great. Really.

I just think that the pilot should already know enough about the company to be desiring to work there because of the information he has gathered. Once knowing he likes the company, the equipment, the reputation, yada yada,..... THEN he should apply for a job.

Suppose he goes to the interview and finds something he doesn't like, or a problem for his family that he hadn't expected? Now, another pilot has possibly been delayed in being interviewed or hired who had no problem, and had his ducks in a row beforehand.

That's all.

I hope it works out for him.

WHAT?

folks, this really isn't going where I wanted it to.

I did do my "homework" as far as I can with what I have. This web site has helped me out many times before and will continue to in the future. Thanks for all the good wishes. Maybe just not today.

take care all!

Perhaps it simply wasn't apparent from your post that you had a good handle on the company.

If you did, what were we supposed to add?

What specifically are you loking for? Financial condition of the company, corporate culture, plans for expansion?

timebuilder

I was thinking more of quality of life, turnover rate, attitude of the management, stuff I won't even know after the interview. Just any help from someone who has worked, is working, or knows someone who is working there.

No harm, no foul.

I go through Sky Trek quite regularly. While I don't have any first hand knowledge, it seems to be a very good quality King Air operator. Sky Trek is based in Modesto, CA; it’s an FBO, charter/management Company. MOD is about 30 nm to Oakland and 40 nm to SFO, but it’s about a 90 minute drive to OAK (120 to SFO), Consequently the cost of living is not bad considering that its only 40 miles from SFO.

Skytrek gets most of there business by repositioning to the Bay area and doing charters from SFO, OAK, SJC. A lot of trips to S. Cal and the desert, plus Reno and Vegas.

A lady named Penny, is the VP and seems to be the "person in charge", a lady named Debra works the front desk, Michael is the lead dispatcher (he's also a low time pilot, often hitching rides in the King Air), John used to be the line supervisor, but he’s now transitioning to evening dispatch. Obviously, there's a bunch of other people working there, but I don't know any of them.

As for pilot type information, I don't know exact numbers but they have about 3 B200's, 3 C90's, 1 F90, a Baron, and a Challenger. The Challenger has been worldwide, but it doesn't go out much; so I'd believe that the Challenger is managed and the owner only lets it take "good" trips. Don't plan on upgrading to the C601 since I'm pretty sure only the DO and CP fly it. Basically, just plan on flying a bunch of King Air trips, probably so many that the Baron will seem like a very welcome change.

The airplanes seem to be in real good condition, I never hear them having an Mx issue, then again it’s a King Air!

Most of the pilots that I see there have been there for a number of years (even during the good times) and seem upbeat and happy. That is a real good sign for charter companies, being able to keep turn over low and morale high. The only people that were leaving were going to the majors. Another sign that it is a quality charter company is that they don’t do any air-ambulance.

Like I said, I really don't know much about there operation, I just pass through quite regularly.:D

PS they have the coolest crew car around, they have 2 standard "beaters", but if they break down they role out "big green." Picture in your mind that station wagon that Chevy Chase drove around in that "Vacation" movie! The amazing thing is all the lights actually work!

Finally, newbee's questions are answered.... :)

I used to work for a charter co. out of Hayward, CA.... and we used Sky-Trek alot for shorter medical trips and a few brokered charter work.... as far as I know, they're an excellent run company and the pilots seem happy to be there... Good luck on your interview!

Sincerely,

thanks to all

I really appreshiate the information. The interview went well. The company seems very proffesional and a good place to work. I am not too sure about Modesto though? Anyway, Good information and I really like this site when it works like it can. Hope all is well and I will update you all in the future.
