I was speaking with another inten the other day about future plans after she graduates and where she wanted to go fly. Finding out she wants to be based in MN we began talking about Mesaba and Pinnacle. I told her that with her times she could go fly with mesaba; good pay, work rules, pilot group etc... and her famous line was

"I don't want to fly a Saab, I want to fly a jet"

That pissed me off. I hate hearing people my age say stupid Sh!t like that, it puts a bad rep on the ones who actually do care about the industry and not some stupid fancy jet.

Mesaba is such a good place to work! Furloughs, concessions, bankrupt, owned by NWA... WHAT DOES PAUL FOLEY DO?

I don't blame her not wanting to fly that bug smasher.
Have fun sweatin' it up ALL day long. I'd get heat stroke every day in that thing.

Don't worry, 6 months from the delivery of an SJS jet, they all smell like rotten a$$! Saab and CRJ alike!
PBR

helluva lot better than peanuckle

Who cares if she wants to fly a jet? As long as she doesn't go to some alter-ego pseudo-SCAB airline like GoJet, then what does it matter? You wanna fly Saabs? Go to Colgan or Mesaba. Wanna fly Jets? Go to PCL, CMR, CHQ, or any of the other countless RJ operators out there. She'll be cured of the SJS within months of stepping foot on PCL property, I can assure you of that.

5 years ago, that would have been a dumb thing to say because she would be lucky to get hired by anybody. But now, with 500 hours you have 10 airlines to choose from. And given the choice, with pay, qol, and base held constant, what would you rather fly?

The only time it would be "SJS" or whatever you guys call it now is when she says she'll fly the jet over the saab for 10% less and being based away from home.

I dont understand the problem with this? Turboprops are fun, but in todays environment she has a choice, let her fly what she wants. Besides jets are easier to fly so it makes sense for a girl, let her do that and leave the real airplanes to the men!!

She's an idiot.

Flying a turboprop is fun and great experience as well. Too bad airlines don't require turboPROP experience....they should.

I don't see a problem with this either. Yes, turboprops would be fun and a great experience, but 12 legs a day, more work, for less money in a little sweaty a$$ airplane.... no thanks.

Who is at fault here? The 500 hour pilot that takes a job that was created by mainline pilots giving away more and more flying each time or the mainline pilots? This is NOT her fault, is ours

Amen.

Next time you see her, tell her that setting goals and going for what YOU want to do is WRONG. Tell her that doing what other people tell you to do is MUCH better than setting goals for yourself.

Oh how I love the Freudian slips. STUPID fancy jet huh?

As pilots continue to learn of the importance of jet time and especially of jet PIC on the resume in today's market you'll have an endless past time lashing out on those pilots who may move ahead quicker than you.

Hey, at least she'll be able to get a "wow" out of her friends. I tell people I fly a cargo turboprop, and I get the feeling they're imagining an old DC3 with chickens in the back. To the rest of the world "turbo" is just a buzz word if you still have props on it.

Then again, who flys for prestige anyway?

wow tough crowd... Granted, the opportunity is there so why not? I agree, but it was the way she said it, I guess you had to be there.
Oh well, nevermind

Q: What do Delta, Continental, Fedex, Southwest, jet Blue, Air Tran, United, Allegiant, Gemini, North American, Frontier, Midwest all have in common.

A: They all hire TP captains.

No more furlougs and we are doubling + in size over the next couple years.

Growth will offset the concessions.

XJ is no longer in bankruptcy.

Owned by NWA....yeah...the flow thru really sucks and life was so much better when MAIR owned us.

What does Paul Foley do? Who cares as he has nothing to do with XJ anymore.

You clearly have no clue what your talking about so go do some homework. The gal in question lives in MSP so I suppose you would advise her that her life wiill be so much better if she commutes for Eagle or CoEx or SkyWay, ect. ect.
