Here are the seven airlines that posted a profit for the quarter:

Express Jet $25.8 million
Southwest $24 million
Jet Blue $17.6 million
SkyWest $13.3 million
Mesa $12.0 million
Air Tran $ 2.0 million
ACA $ 2.0 million

Did I miss any other passenger carrying, publicly traded 121 carriers?

CMR and ASA both have made profits, but I don't have the exact numbers. I don't believe either one has ever lost money.
 
I believe FedEx flies under Part 121, and I'm certain they have been posting profits for some time, FWIW.

Could you cite a source for that? It seems from the Express Jet Quarterly earnings item below, that CAL is NOT buying the jets.

"During the quarter, ExpressJet amended its capacity purchase agreement with Continental Airlines and its purchase agreement with Embraer to slow the pace of regional jet deliveries. The amendment extends the final delivery schedule through the second quarter of 2006. In return, Continental Airlines extended its agreement that ExpressJet will be the exclusive provider of regional jet service in its hubs and Continental Airlines' termination right without cause by one year, to Dec. 31, 2006."

Let me be more precise with my list. These are publicly traded passenger carriers doing 121 ops profitably. Hence, I would not expect to see Air Wisconsin, Comair, ASA, Express.net, Custom Air Cargo, Evergreen, or FedEx.

Mesa announces 1st quarter results tomorrow and may need to be added to the list.
 
If Express Jet was actually paying for all the RJ's, they'd be so far down in a hole they couldn't see the light of day. I used to work there, how's that for a source.

When you say we are part of Delta, there are many mainline types in this board who would get fighting mad at that statement. We are a part of Delta when the chips are down and they need us, when things are looking good we are scooter trash who fly for a separate airline.

Are you saying that the only reason XJT is making a profit is because they aren't paying for their airplanes? Sounds like JetBlue! :D I just crack myself up.

Not good enough for me. Looks like you've been at Southwest longer than Express Jet has existed as a separate company owned by CAL. Do you think it is POSSIBLE the arrangements there have changed since you left?

Continental readies to sell entire ExpressJet stake

NEW YORK, May 1 (Reuters) - ExpressJet Holdings Inc. <XJT.N> on Thursday said its controlling stockholder, Continental Airlines Inc. <CAL.N>, could soon sell its entire majority stake, sending shares of the feeder airline down by nearly 10 percent.

ExpressJet's said in a regulatory filing that Continental could now divest its 53.1 percent stake in the company, worth almost $410 million before taxes at the time of the filing.

A lock-up period, during which Continental was barred from selling its 34 million shares of ExpressJet expired April 17, one year after Continental spun off ExpressJet in an initial public offering.

Continental has said it does not plan to remain a long-term investor in ExpressJet, which provides regional connecting flights for Continental to smaller cities.

Some industry analysts, however, expected Continental to hold onto its stake until the end of this year or later because its liquidity had improved, making it less necessary for Continental to convert its ExpressJet stock into cash.

Continental, the No. 5 U.S. air carrier, ended the first quarter with $1.18 billion in cash.

Credit Suisse First Boston analyst Jim Higgins said two weeks earlier that Continental's cash levels suggested the airline may not sell its stake until next year "unless exogenous events impair liquidity."

Continental spokesman Rahsaan Johnson said nothing specific had arisen that required Continental to build up its cash reserves.

"We want to be prepared to move when market conditions are right," Johnson said. He was not aware of whether talks had been held between Continental and any parties interested in buying all or part of the stake.

According to a shelf registration statement filed by ExpressJet with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday, Continental would receive all the proceeds from the stock sales.

Shares of ExpressJet had dropped $1.11, or 9.6 percent, to $10.44 on the New York Stock Exchange by late morning.

ExpressJet has agreements to serve as the exclusive provider of regional jet service from Continental's hubs at least through 2006. Nearly all of ExpressJet's revenue comes from those agreements.

Continental's stake currently allows it to "control or influence the vote on all matters submitted to stockholders, including the election of directors and the approval of extraordinary corporate transactions, such as mergers," ExpressJet said in the filing.

Continental will have the right to nominate five directors to ExpressJet's board as long as it owns at least half of ExpressJet's common stock.

CAL owns the stock, which is how Ex-Jet got the $$$ to pay for the jets. Trust me.

sounds like your the only Dikhead on this board that has a chip on his shoulder about that issue. As a previous Freight Dog, Commuter Dog, 121 Supplemental guy, A Current Delta Furloughee, ....... you can kiss my a$$. Your the kind of guy that gives all pilots a bad name...... regional or mainline. Get over it..............................................

You poor baby....what a classy response from the elite DAL pilot group. So you've flown a bunch of sh.itty jobs, so have I, so have MOST people on this board....so you're furloughed...I've been furloughed before as well...BFD...DEAL WITH IT.

You want me to kiss you @ss?? I'm sure a fat wallet and a DALPA card would be in the way.

Listen, Man. I feel for the DAL furloughees...If I could wave a wand and put everyone back to work, I would. But the ONLY one with a chip on his shoulder is YOU.

CMR/ASA and many other "small jet" airlines MAKE money--you and your kind are QUICK to remind us we are NOT a part of DAL (as in giving us a DAL seniorioty number), so we're separate...fine. You can't have it both ways.

I don't want to hi-jack this thread, so I'm done with it, and I'm done with cry-babies.

OK, one more post....you say you're a former regional guy. I'll bet you were an FO at DAL until the furlough. I can tell this by your attitude. The new mainline FO's are ALWAYS the AS.SHOLES who forgot where they came from and are the most violent toward anyone at the regional/national level trying to get a foothold.

Just an observation, that's all I have to say.......
