How is single pilot IFR (turbine, Metroliner, 99% cargo) time viewed in the "majors?" I wanted to avoid the regional carriers and went straight to 135 (pays more and I sleep at home every night). I have been told by some that SPIFR is great, and by others that it is worthless. What's the truth? I do want to fly with one of the majors eventually, any help is appriciated.

A Smart Man.

1) Refuses to whore himself for "opportunity" by taking less pay and the "Carrot-On-The-Stick" that a Regional offers with Upgrades etc.

2) Places his daily existence (QOL) above the "hopes and dreams" offered by the Conventional Wisdom prevalent in this so-called Profession.

Go Forth Grasshopper....

I don't remember one single app I filled out that asked for 2 pilot IFR time. Get the mins and put in the app.

If I am not mistaken, one of the larger metroliner operators gladly accepts "whores" to pay money and sit in the right seat during normally single pilot operations. It is probably PFT...

Well...then it wouldn't be single-pilot time.

The only problem for us(FDX) is single engine non-jet PIC time. Avoid that and keep on truckin'.

It's not PFT, although some people opt for PFT (don't ask me why). I know who you're thinking of (KLA right?) and I've heard some bad things about them too. Fortunately, 90% isn't true!

Darn YKW, I just turned down an opportunity to fly a navi-HO Part 135 over northern Colorado and Southern Wyoming just so I can take a shot at a decent regional. Piston Vs.Turbine over the rocks and in the winter with lots of ice. Maybe, I am trying to make a carreer positive move. Get a year of safe turbine time, then see what happens.

SA-227 time...

I flew the Metro for a couple of years single pilot, all cargo, etc. It's hard, demanding work which requires a great deal of proficiency. It's also --like flying generally-- oftentimes unforgiving. That said, it certainly isn't worthless...far from it. I would, however, after you have your requisite turbine PIC, "move on" to gain some significant CRM experience. If there's anything "worthless" or lacking in your current position, it's that -- no CRM [really] required.

It worked well for me...be safe out there!!

When FO's from other crappy regional's show up for a 2nd interview, something could be right with that gaining outfit.
