single engine or multi engine commercial first?

Is that a new FAR? Last I heard, ME ratings were just train to proficiency, which usually takes about 10 hours. Is there a requirement that for an inital commercial you need 20 hours now? I'm in a hotel and don't have the FARs in front of me right now.

You are thinking of the ADD-ON requirement, which is training to proficiency, but the initial eligibility requirements formulti-engine require specific training(not just hours) in a multi-engine, including x/c, night, and instrument.
