Let's have the tapes for the public to hear.

FORT WORTH, Texas The union for American Airlines pilots opposes a federal judge's ruling that allows the release of cockpit recordings from one of the planes used in the nine-eleven terrorist attacks.

Allied Pilots Association president Ralph Hunter says releasing the tapes would, quote, "only sensationalize and serve no legitimate purpose."
The Flight 93 recording has never been heard publicly.

But during the death-penalty trial of suspected terrorist Zacarias Moussaoui this week, a prosecutor said jurors couldn't understand the magnitude of the attacks without hearing the victims on the tape.

Hunter says the recordings could be played in a closed session and still meet requirements for a fair death-penalty trial.

The purpose of a union is to do collectively what we would like to do individually.

If it was me, my brother, my son, or my friend, I would not want the sounds of my death blasted on on television. The union is acting on behalf of the families of those pilots.

I support their position.

Sigh...

As much as I hate to agree with the bane of the Dakota County School Board, I have to agree...

In my opinion, the prosecutor is looking for a cheap thrill to put the jury over the top. It should be a slam dunk on the facts alone. Play in CLOSED session if they must.

You really think the judge really gives a rats ass about what the union thinks about this in this case. I think not.

Well, considering Federal Law is involved, she better.

Its up to the judge not the union...take a civic class..judges interpret the law not the union. So explain to me again why the judge cares what the union thinks?

Spoken like one who has never witnessed the roles of advocates and attorneys in a court of law. Of course it's the judges opinion, but each side makes a case for their position, and the judge considers those legal positions and should make a decision based on the law. Using your understanding, there would never be any arguments in front of judges!

I suppose you ought to learn about what the original purpose and use of a CVR was to be before opening one's pie hole about it.

Hint: It wasn't to provide cheap gratification for the masses.

Another hint: The union is designed to speak for pilots. Especially the dead ones.

Unions do not enter these topics with the false expectation of having a "binding" influence. Thier intent is rather to be "persuasive".
