Well i have heard alot of differnt things on this issue. I am wondering if i can give sim inst. as an AGI. I have heard that i can give INst. and can sign the pilot off. But he cant use that time towards getting another rating. I do not have my CFI and the F.A.A has taken my medical. So i am teaching some First Officers in the Sim and just wondering if i can sign them off for IFR currency in the sim.?

s3jetman,

Unfortunatley an Advanced ground Intructor cannot do any proficiency checks or sign off for any ratings. The only thing an AGI can do is teach ground required subjects needed to sign students off for written exams or to satify the ground training required for a rating. But if your an ATP and work for an airline or an approved sim instructor for lets say flightsafety or simuflight you can give sim training for type rides or proficiency line checks as long as you are appropriatley rated in the aircraft type and have gone through their training program to qualify. As you know medicals are no longer required to instruct as long as you do not need to be the PIC on the flight. You do not need a medical for Sim instruction. Hope it helps.
