How many of you are taking care of pax while in cruise flight?

I just interviewed for a corporate job (mid-size jet) that I wold love to have. The only drawback for the job is that I am not sure about acting as a flight attendant while in flight. The CP explained during the interview that this is how they do things, no flight attendants in the department, the SIC takes care of the pax(warms food, serves, and cleans up) while in cruise.

I have always subscribed to the belief that you only need to leave your seat up front for when nature calls or it is time to get off the airplane. But if I get the offer I could certainly change my thoughts.

How common is this?

Thanks for your help.

That's a new one to me. I've checked on passengers, chatted briefly, and helped them find the creamer during cruise flight but I've never been away from my seat for more than a minute or two. Most of the regulars prefer for us to "jump in and fire her up, we'll take care of ourselves" which is mutually beneficial. I think the CP needs to tell his principal's that they need to buck up and get their own coffee, are they helpless????

yup, thats a new one...

I have heard of checking on them, throwing food and waters at them before start...but to get up during cruise to play F/A?
Only time I heard of this is at the VERY low end of the charter industry.

I never thought it was a smart idea, these guys can afford a professional (well..) flight attendant. Ours are all excellent cooks, have CPR,Defib, and medical training, and are all thoroughly trianed on emergency and evac training. How can you pass this up? The first time old cheap a$$ CEO has a big MI due to bacon fat and you dont notice until you pull up on the ramp and by then he is white and cold...maybe then the company will reconsider the cost savings assosciated with not having a F/A...nah, they wont..

PT 91 I suppose its legal...I dont know the regs very good anymore...and at least the employer told you this is what they expect from you from the beginning.

here's the question?

How bad ya want the job?

:D

FAR Part 91.105

Take a look at this reg. In part it reads......." (1) Be at the crewmember station unless the absence is necessary to perform duties in connection with the operation of the aircraft......." Does that mean flight attendant duties as well as your duties as SIC?

I really think if the aircraft requires a 2 pilot crew, then both pilots should remain at their appropriate tasks. If the aircraft and pilots are certified for single pilot operations and the second pilot is an insurance requirement, that could be another situation

I always thought the regs read "physiological needs". I highly doubt serving the pax would qualify!

Our pax routinely serve themselves and don't have a problem. We'll get up to show them where things are, but thats about it.

Well it does, I left off the rest of that paragraph. The rest of it should read "..........or in connection with physiological needs; and

(2) Keep the safety belt fastened while at the crewmember station." blah, blah, blah

Duties: My job title states "pilot", so my duties are up front with the good view, not in back fluffing pillows. If they need someone to warm their BBQ, hire some Hooter girls!:D

Hooters chiks, BBQ, and pillow fluffing all in the same sentence...

fokker jet is the man

got the call from the CP tonight letting me know that "the decision was very hard and after careful consideration, we have decided to offer the position to another applicant ".

Oh well, I probably would have taken the job if I got the offer, but the FA duties did seem a little strange to me.

might just go drown my sorrows in some BBQ sauce.

Thanks for the info.

It’s one thing to be nice and polite. For instance if your going to go back to the crapper anyway, you might as well ask if anybody needs anything. That’s just simple manners.

It’s quite another to say “Ok, there’s Top of Climb, go back and start heating up the catering and when your done serving them, I’ll take a Diet Coke with my BBQ Brisket sandwich.”

Now I’m not saying I’m too high and mighty to ever do scenario two, far from it, I’d be more than happy to serve the “Master”, but I guarantee you that you’d have to pay me enough so that I could retire within 1 year.

It could have been a nice but yet unusaul way too tell you that the CP didnt really want you working there.
Belive it or not I had the samequestion asked of me at an interview with Flex Jet. Mainly just too see how I would handle overbearing pax.
